Jodie Marsh Charged with Assault Following Neighbour Altercation
Former glamour model and animal rights activist Jodie Marsh has been formally charged with assault after an incident involving a neighbour at her Essex animal rescue centre. The altercation, which reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, stems from an ongoing dispute concerning the welfare and management of animals at her property.
Details of the Alleged Assault Incident
According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 12:40 PM on Friday, January 16th, at an address in Lindsell, Essex. Officers responded to reports of a woman behaving aggressively towards a man and allegedly assaulting him. The confrontation is said to have involved both physical contact and verbal threats.
Jodie Marsh, aged 47, has been charged with common assault and using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence. She is scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court to face these charges.
Background of the Neighbour Dispute
The former model, who operates Fripps Farm rescue centre in Lindsell, Essex, claims the incident was precipitated by what she describes as a "campaign of harassment" from the neighbour. Marsh alleges that the individual trespassed on her land, filmed her animals, and manipulated footage to make them appear malnourished or "skeletal."
In a statement to The Sun, Marsh admitted to losing her temper during the confrontation. She stated, "I put my hand on his neck because I leaned in to whisper to him. I can't even remember what I said because I was so upset. It lasted around 30 seconds."
Context of Fripps Farm and Recent Events
Fripps Farm is home to over 250 rescued animals, including alpacas, emus, and reptiles, many of which have been saved from slaughter or euthanasia. The rescue centre's website emphasises Marsh's commitment to providing a loving home for unwanted or endangered animals.
This incident is not the first controversy surrounding the farm. In January, a devastating fire broke out at the property, resulting in the loss of two beloved animals and significant damage to Marsh's home due to an electrical fault. Additionally, Marsh recently won a court battle to retain her lemurs after appealing a council decision regarding a wild animal licence.
Other notable incidents include Marsh taking a meerkat to a local pub, which raised concerns among some residents, and her belief that online trolls have targeted her rescue efforts. These events highlight the ongoing challenges and tensions Marsh has faced with neighbours and local authorities since establishing the farm.
The case continues to develop as legal proceedings move forward, with Marsh's court appearance expected to shed further light on the circumstances surrounding the assault charges.
