Lorraine Kelly's Daughter Recounts Terrifying Threat to Fiancé Near Baby
Lorraine Kelly's Daughter Reveals Terrifying Threat Incident

Rosie Smith, the daughter of renowned television presenter Lorraine Kelly, has publicly disclosed a deeply distressing incident where a man allegedly threatened to murder her fiancé in the presence of their infant daughter. This shocking event occurred during one of the family's initial outings with their newborn, casting a shadow over what should have been a joyous period.

A Harrowing Ordeal During Early Parenthood

Rosie Smith, who is Lorraine Kelly's only child with husband Steve Smith, became a mother in August 2024 when she and her partner Steve White welcomed their daughter, Billie Kelly Smith-White. However, the early days of motherhood were marred by a traumatic encounter that left the family shaken.

Speaking candidly on The Life of Bryony podcast alongside her mother, Rosie described the incident as unfolding during a pram walk. She was recovering from a planned Caesarean section at 38 weeks, which left her in significant pain and grappling with postpartum anxiety. "It was a really bizarre time," Rosie recounted. "So we were walking, one of our first pram walks. I couldn't go out and walk because I was in so much pain from the C-section and from being so tired. No one talks about how painful it is."

The Threat That Shattered Their Peace

As Rosie slowly crossed a road, hindered by her recovery, a man began shouting at her, using profanity and demanding she hurry up. The situation escalated rapidly. "I can't really remember. It was all a bit of a blur," she said, "but he said something about how he was going to kill Steve and do it in front of our baby because we had the pram and stuff." This violent threat left Rosie in tears, feeling overwhelmed and unable to process the events.

Steve White, who has a background in police work, immediately suggested contacting the authorities. Upon returning home, the police arrived to interview Steve while Rosie was breastfeeding, creating a chaotic scene. "When we got to the house the police came round and interviewed Steve. I was breastfeeding, boobs were flying, there was a lot going on. Then they went to arrest him. It's nuts," Rosie explained.

Decision to Drop Charges for a Fresh Start

In the aftermath, Steve made the decision to drop the charges against the man. The family had recently moved house and were eager to avoid the stress and protracted nature of a court case, opting instead for a clean slate. Rosie expressed mixed feelings about this choice, stating, "I still probably have mixed feelings about it. I do feel guilty not being there but I don't think it would be healthy being in that situation."

Despite this ordeal, Rosie and Steve are looking forward to their future, with plans to marry in Scotland this summer. Rosie also reflected on her mother's influence, noting, "She may be everybody’s TV mum, but she’s not famous to me. I’ve never known anything different. She’s just my mum." She shared Lorraine's advice: "Everything is temporary, the good and the bad. And just be nice to people. It’s not hard. It’s actually harder to be horrible."

Additionally, Rosie emphasized the importance of self-care, a lesson passed down from her mother and grandmother. "She also says that you have to look after yourself before you can look after anyone else, including your baby. And my granny told me to be patient," she added.
