Megan Pickford, wife of England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, was in the stands supporting the Three Lions as an England WAG during their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 knockout match against DR Congo. The 30-year-old lifestyle influencer, who has three children with the England goalkeeper, took to Instagram to confess she was 'sending prayers to the lord' throughout the fixture.
England's Nerve-Wracking Comeback
Countless England football supporters were left on edge last night (July 2) as the Three Lions faced DR Congo in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 knockout tie. At the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia, USA, Thomas Tuchel's team survived a significant fright after falling 1-0 behind in the opening half, though they eventually turned things around in the second 45 minutes to book their place in the Last 16.
DR Congo grabbed a remarkable early advantage when Brian Cipenga took advantage of English defensive chaos, slotting a low effort past Jordan Pickford at his near post. For much of the encounter, England appeared entirely sluggish and flustered. When they did penetrate, Congolese goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi delivered a world-class performance, single-handedly thwarting numerous clear opportunities from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane.
Second-Half Turnaround
Yet, following tactical changes during a second-half hydration break, substitute Anthony Gordon delivered a pinpoint cross from the left which Harry Kane nodded home to finally pierce the Congolese defence. With extra time approaching, Kane then discovered room inside a packed penalty box and unleashed a ferocious, unstoppable drive into the roof of the net to seal the 2–1 fightback.
Beyond being nerve-wracking for supporters, it was equally a stressful period for the players' wives and girlfriends who were in the stands cheering them on. Among those watching on was Jordan Pickford's wife Megan.
Megan's Instagram Reaction
The lifestyle influencer, who has amassed 158,000 followers on the platform, also posted a series of pictures of herself in the stands, showcasing her stylish appearance. The blonde looked radiant as she wore a cropped green England shirt to complement her husband's kit, pairing it with a coordinating bag and white trousers, while sporting perfectly blow-dried hair and flawless makeup.
Megan, who is originally from Sunderland, was pictured with her hands raised to her face during the nail-biting encounter, as well as beaming and checking her reflection on her mobile phone. Alongside the image, she wrote: 'Prayers were said to the lord tonight.'
The post proved a hit with her followers, accumulating more than 63,000 likes. One fan exclaimed: 'Stunning,' while another commented: 'Wag culture is so back you goddess.' A third remarked that she looked 'out of this world', with a fourth describing her as 'a dream in green.'
Previous Wardrobe Mishap
Megan's polished appearance comes after she endured a wardrobe disaster during England's opening fixture against Croatia, when she revealed that while she had touched down safely in America, her luggage had failed to make the journey. The stunner, who now lives with her husband and children in Cheshire, posted on her Instagram story at the time wearing her seven-year-old son Arlo's England shirt, captioning the image: 'Arrived in America... my suitcase did not. Can I wear my seven-year-old's shirt for the game tonight or not?'
In the end, though, she opted for a straightforward white T-shirt, jeans and a cowboy hat as she posted a photograph on social media. She wrote alongside the image: 'No suitcase mishap was going to stop me supporting my husband. Featuring the top I travelled in and borrowed jeans.'
