Neighbour's Moving Note to Cat Reveals Secret Daily Life

A woman was left utterly astonished after receiving an unexpected note from neighbours she had never personally spoken to, just as they were preparing to move out of their home. The surprising twist? The message was not addressed to her, but to her cat.

The Unspoken Bond Between Neighbours and a Feline Friend

Maintaining peaceful and amicable relations with neighbours is a common aspiration for many, yet it does not always translate into close friendships or regular interactions. This was certainly the case for Amber Liddon, who had not formed a personal bond with the people living nearby. However, her cat Leo, whom she describes as "more sociable" than she will "ever be," had cultivated a very different relationship with the community.

Over the years, Amber had observed and admired Leo's friendly nature from a distance, watching as he became a familiar and beloved figure in the local area. Recently, however, she received a shock when Leo was the recipient of a letter from some neighbours who were relocating.

A Heartfelt Goodbye Message on TikTok

Amber took to TikTok to share a carousel of images documenting the note, adding overlay text that read: "When your cat who is very well loved in the area gets a goodbye letter from neighbours I’ve never spoken to…" The subsequent slide revealed a picture of the actual note, which stated: "To Leo, we are moving and will miss you Leo! You are the best cat ever." It was signed by the neighbours at number 22.

The "sweet" message was inscribed on the reverse of a photograph taken by the neighbour, depicting Leo contentedly grooming himself while lounging in a basket. Amber responded with mixed emotions, commenting: "Thanks number 22, you’ve ruined my day at 8am... emotional damage." Despite the initial shock, she was genuinely touched by the thoughtful gesture.

Community Reactions and Emotional Responses

In the comments section of the TikTok video, users eagerly shared their thoughts and feelings. One person remarked: "I love people who love cats." Another suggested: "I’d knock on and ask for some form of contact to send updates. Being an empath sucks." To this, Amber replied: "I went to, they’d gone," accompanied by a sad face emoticon.

Further comments included proposals such as: "They might have a Royal Mail redirection for a while, might be worth sending a postcard," and expressions like: "Omg sobbing," and "How lovely! I hope they find a new feline friend in their new street." Some users shared more intense reactions, with one stating: "This would destroy me," and another noting: "How sweet is that?!" while a third added: "Crying, so cute yet so heartbreaking."

The Impact of a Feline Companion

Amber elaborated to Newsweek, explaining: "The note made me feel sad but also full of love for the fact that they love him so much as he has impacted their lives these past three to four years." Although she had never engaged in a personal conversation with the neighbour who sent the note, she had witnessed their interactions with Leo. On occasions during the cold winter months, when Leo was not quite ready to return home, Amber had seen the neighbours take him inside their house to ensure he remained warm and safe.

This act of kindness was something Amber found particularly touching, highlighting the unspoken connections that can develop through shared affection for a pet. The incident underscores how animals can bridge gaps between people, fostering community bonds even in the absence of direct human interaction.
