Guthrie Family Makes Desperate New Appeal in Chilling Kidnapping Case
The devastated family of renowned NBC news anchor Savannah Guthrie has issued a fresh and urgent plea for assistance from the public, as the mysterious disappearance of their 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, enters its seventh agonizing week. Nancy, a mother of three, is believed to have been kidnapped from her upscale Catalina Foothills residence in Tucson, Arizona, during the early morning hours of February 1st. A masked suspect was captured on the doorbell camera of her multi-million-dollar property, adding a chilling visual element to the ongoing investigation.
Heartfelt Statement Released During Television Special
During a half-hour special television program titled Bring Her Home on KVOA News 4 Tucson on Saturday, March 21st, Savannah Guthrie, 54, released a joint statement alongside her two siblings and their spouses. The statement expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming support from neighbors, friends, and the broader Tucson community. It began with a powerful five-word declaration: "We are all family now." The family emphasized their belief that local residents hold the key to resolving this harrowing case.
"We continue to believe it is Tucsonans, and the greater southern Arizona community, that hold the key to finding a resolution in this case," the statement read. "Someone knows something. It’s possible a member of this community has information that they do not even realize is significant." The family urged people to search their memories, particularly around the critical timelines of January 31st and the early morning of February 1st, as well as the late evening of January 11th.
Plea for Renewed Attention and Minute Details
The Guthrie family made a desperate request for renewed community focus on the investigation, asking individuals to consult any available camera footage, journal notes, text messages, observations, or conversations that might retrospectively hold significance. "No detail is too small. It may be the key," they stressed. The statement concluded with an emotional appeal for Nancy's safe return, stating, "We miss our mom with every breath and we cannot be in peace until she is home. We cannot grieve; we can only ache and wonder."
It was signed collectively as "The Guthrie Family," listing the names of Savannah and her husband Michael, along with her siblings Camron and Kristine, and Annie and Tommaso. The family expressed a desire to celebrate Nancy's "beautiful and courageous life" but noted they cannot do so until she is brought to a final place of rest.
Investigation Progress and Ongoing Challenges
Despite a major investigation involving local law enforcement and the FBI, which has generated approximately 40,000 police tips, authorities appear no closer to locating the missing octogenarian. A horrific discovery of Nancy's blood on her front porch has intensified concerns. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who is leading the investigation with FBI assistance, has stated that authorities hypothesize Nancy was taken in a targeted kidnapping, though they are "not 100% sure of that."
In February, police released video footage showing a masked suspect outside Nancy Guthrie's home, tampering with the camera. Law enforcement believes the individual was armed. Neighbors have been asked to review their own surveillance footage from that night and preceding dates, hoping to uncover clues about the suspect's identity and Nancy's whereabouts.
Expert Calls for More Public Information
Meanwhile, retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer has suggested that detectives need to provide the public with more details to ensure public safety, amid fears that multiple individuals may be involved. "There is a kidnapper (at least 1) and a potential murderer (maybe more) on the streets. Who will be their next target?" she questioned, highlighting the broader security implications of the unsolved case. A nationwide search has yielded clues, including DNA evidence and alleged ransom notes, yet no suspect has been identified, leaving the Guthrie family and community in a state of anxious suspense.
