CBS Axes Beloved NFL Radio Show in Major Network Overhaul
CBS Ends Zach Gelb Show in Major Radio Overhaul

American football fans have been left reeling after the sudden confirmation that CBS is pulling the plug on a popular NFL-focused radio programme. The cancellation forms part of a sweeping overhaul at the network, described by its host as the effective closure of the station "as we once knew it."

End of an Era for Afternoon Drive

It was confirmed on Tuesday that the show facing the axe is 'The Zach Gelb Show,' a mainstay of the afternoon drive-time slot. In an emotional statement posted on social media, host Zach Gelb revealed that his final broadcast will take place this week.

"Friday will be my last day hosting The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio/Infinity Sports Network," Gelb announced on X. "To anyone who ever listened or worked with me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Gelb reflected on his career progression within the company, having started on the weekend overnight shift in March 2018 before climbing the ranks to secure the coveted daytime position.

A Network in Transition

Gelb's departure is not an isolated incident but a direct result of a significant corporate restructuring. The Infinity Sports Network is rebranding to Westwood One Sports later this month, leading to multiple show cancellations.

"It's sad to see CBS Sports Radio/Infinity Sports Network closing its doors as we once knew it," Gelb stated, expressing gratitude for the memories while looking ahead. "I'm excited to see what the next chapter in my sports talk journey brings. Ready to kick ass at wherever that may be."

He is not the only casualty of this switch. Fellow hosts Bart Winkler and Bill Reiter have also publicly announced that their respective programmes are coming to an end.

Fan Outpouring and Future Prospects

Following Gelb's announcement, a wave of support from devoted listeners flooded social media. Fans praised his talent, work ethic, and infectious passion for sports broadcasting.

One supporter wrote on X: "Congrats on a great run Gelby!! You are an immense radio talent and a great guy. Can't wait to see you kick ass in the future." Another added, "Your passion is infectious and someone is going to be very lucky to have you!"

In his farewell, Gelb fondly summarised his tenure: "It was one hell of a journey! Filled with compelling sports talk, the best interviews with the biggest names, viral headlines, broadcasting at the biggest sporting events... and one dedicated audience." The future of the station's lineup now rests with its new identity under Westwood One Sports.
