KIIS FM Brisbane Breakfast hosts rehired for 2026 after listener backlash
KIIS FM Brisbane Breakfast hosts rehired after axe

In a remarkable reversal, the popular Brisbane breakfast radio trio of Robin Bailey, Kip Wightman, and Corey Oates have been rehired by KIIS FM, just months after their show was axed. The Australian Radio Network (ARN) confirmed the hosts will return to the KIIS973 Breakfast slot in 2026, following an overwhelming response from listeners.

The Dramatic U-Turn

ARN announced the surprise decision on Tuesday, attributing it directly to "strong audience engagement and recent survey results." The trio had already aired what was believed to be their final show in November, despite earlier reports suggesting a December 12 end date. A spokesperson for the network stated that ARN's priority is delivering shows audiences love, and this move reflects a commitment to Brisbane listeners.

The hosts are celebrated for their on-air chemistry and community involvement. "Robin, Kip & Corey are known for their warmth and relatable humour," the spokesperson said. "Their on-air chemistry is matched by a strong commitment to the local community, supporting Brisbane causes and sharing stories that resonate with everyday listeners across the city."

Hosts and Listeners React

Robin Bailey, 55, who was visibly emotional after her presumed final broadcast, expressed profound gratitude. "Brissy you did it! Thank you so much," she said. "We are coming back because of you and I can't tell you how grateful I am to be back behind the mic with Kip and Corey again on KIIS973. A reversal like this is a first."

Co-host Kip Wightman credited the comeback to "people power," joking about needing to return office equipment he took on their last day. Corey Oates added his thanks, saying, "We love starting the day with you Brisbane... We've got exciting plans for 2026." The revived show, promising new segments and special guests, is set to relaunch on January 19, 2026.

Replacement Host Finds New Role

The announcement also clarifies the future of comedian Craig 'Lowie' Low, who was originally slated to replace the trio. Instead of taking the breakfast slot, Low will host a new national night show, Lowie Live, airing from 9pm to midnight across five major cities starting in the New Year. Low expressed his support for the breakfast show's return and excitement for his own national platform.

Derek 'DB' Bargwanna, Head of KIIS Network, said listener demand was clear and the door had remained open for a reunion. The initial decision to axe the show in October had been controversial, with industry insiders criticising Low's initial appointment as a poor substitute.
