The Summit's Afton McKeith Reveals Contestant Fainted in Unaired Scene
Afton McKeith, the daughter of controversial I'm A Celebrity star Gillian McKeith, has made a startling admission about a fellow competitor on ITV's reality show The Summit. She disclosed that contestant Patrick actually fainted during a challenging ladder climb, a dramatic moment that was not included in the broadcast episodes.
Behind-the-Scenes Drama Unfolds
The show, hosted by This Morning presenter Ben Shephard, follows 14 challengers as they attempt to conquer a mountain summit in New Zealand's South Island Alps, competing for a prize pot of £200,000. In the early episodes, Patrick was forced to withdraw on medical grounds after sustaining a torn bicep injury during the ladder climb.
Afton shared this revelation in response to a viewer's comment on social media platform X. The viewer had drawn parallels between Afton's anxious reaction on the show and her mother's infamous fainting episode on I'm A Celebrity, posting: "Afton ffs. Just like her mum. She'll start fainting come tomorrow."
Afton replied: "Patrick actually did during the climb! After watching tonight I can see it wasn't shown though." She further explained that Patrick's injury was too severe to continue, leaving him with no choice but to exit the competition.
Gruelling Challenge and Emotional Aftermath
Reflecting on her own experience with the ladder, Afton described the physical demands: "The ladder steps were so far apart! It was hard to reach since I'm not that tall and it was all about upper body strength. It was unexpectedly more exhausting than it looked." She also mentioned the added pressure of a mountain keeper intimidating her during the task.
Following his exit, Patrick took to Instagram to express his disappointment in a candid social media clip. He said: "I did not see that coming, having to be carried out by a chopper, you know, it's really sad. That's the worst way I could have possibly gone." He reflected on discovering his mental strength through the experience and offered advice: "The one piece of advice I would give to myself is to expect the unexpected, go easy on yourself, don't over-exert yourself and stay hydrated."
Support and Continuation of the Show
Messages of encouragement flooded in for Patrick, with Afton among those showing support: "Love you Patrick. I was devastated to see you go." Another fan expressed dismay: "So gutted he has gone."
The Summit continues to air, testing contestants' limits in this high-stakes adventure. The show remains a focal point for reality TV enthusiasts, blending physical challenges with emotional storytelling. Viewers can catch new episodes on Tuesday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX, as the remaining competitors push toward the summit and the lucrative prize.
