The most recent elimination from The Apprentice has sparked controversy as the fired candidate vehemently disputes their dismissal, labelling it as entirely undeserved. Following Lord Sugar's decision to send them packing in the latest episode of the BBC business programme, the contestant launched a scathing critique of their team leader's performance.
Bottled Water Challenge Ends in Boardroom Drama
During Thursday night's episode, teams faced the bottled water brand challenge, requiring them to create compelling branding and television advertisements. Conor Galvin served as project manager for the losing team, whose cartoon water brand and TV advert failed to impress Lord Sugar and his advisors, Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell.
This poor performance brought Conor, Rajan Gill, and Roxanne Hamedi into the boardroom for scrutiny. Conor faced criticism for providing unclear instructions, while Rajan was held accountable for pitching errors during the presentation.
Roxanne's Unexpected Firing
Despite these issues, it was pharmacist Roxanne Hamedi from Aberdeen, Scotland, who received the ultimate dismissal from the series. Expressing profound disappointment, Roxanne immediately contested the fairness of her elimination.
'It didn't feel good to be fired, just because I didn't think that I deserved to be,' Roxanne stated emphatically. 'There was a lot going on that day and I feel like other people lacked accountability.'
Direct Blame on Project Manager
Roxanne specifically targeted project manager Conor Galvin for her dismissal, arguing that his leadership deficiencies directly contributed to the team's failure.
'I don't think I deserved it. I feel like there was definitely a lack of direction and leadership from the Project Manager, Conor,' she explained. 'He said that he wants something bold and clean and I believe that's what I delivered.'
She defended her creative contributions, noting: 'The instructions were very vague but I delivered what was asked for with clarity, simplicity and a creative touch. I still stand by it being a professional brand with room to build around it.'
Leadership Dilemma and Health Struggles
Roxanne revealed she had accepted the sub-team lead role despite battling a significant cold during the challenge, creating a difficult predicament.
'I was suffering from a bad cold during the task, I was just really not in the right frame of mind,' she admitted. 'I wouldn't have taken on the sub team lead role whilst being ill, but then at the same time I was like, if I don't do it, then that's going to show that I'm just in the background and I've not taken any risks.'
This created what she described as a 'damned if I do, damned if I don't' situation, where taking leadership risks while unwell ultimately contributed to her dismissal.
Boardroom Regrets and Alternative Outcomes
Reflecting on the boardroom confrontation, Roxanne acknowledged she could have defended herself more aggressively but chose not to resort to desperate tactics.
'I could have fought more in the boardroom, you know, called Rajan out on his lack of input, or reminded Lord Sugar that I'd taken creative risks and didn't hide in the background,' she said. 'But I didn't want it to come down to begging or being the loudest or most apologetic person in the room.'
She maintained that Conor should have been fired instead, accusing him of using her as a convenient scapegoat. 'Conor should have gone because he was the PM and I feel like he did throw me under the bus because I was just an easy scapegoat,' Roxanne asserted.
Previous Contestants Echo Similar Complaints
Roxanne's complaints mirror those of previously eliminated candidates, creating a pattern of disputed firings this season. Last week, Tanmay Hingorani expressed similar frustration after his elimination following the chicken and egg challenge.
'I am disappointed for it to end this way... I did take the bullet in the boardroom and I do think it was unfair,' Tanmay stated, blaming teammate Megan for the team's negotiation failures.
Earlier in the series, two candidates were fired simultaneously during the Hong Kong shopping challenge, with both mortgage broker Nikki Jetha and events manager Georgina Newton contesting their dismissals.
'No, definitely not,' Nikki responded when asked if she deserved elimination. 'I was brave enough to stand up and take on a challenge during the first task.'
Georgina echoed this sentiment, stating: 'No, I didn't. I think in the first episode, I probably contributed more than anybody on my team, and I think for the show, the person that contributes the least should go home.'
Looking Forward in the Competition
Despite her early exit, Roxanne revealed she's backing Karishma Vijay and Rothna Akhtar to succeed in the competition, praising their distinct skill sets and potential.
The ongoing series continues to generate controversy as eliminated candidates increasingly vocalise their disagreements with Lord Sugar's decisions, questioning the fairness of the elimination process and highlighting perceived leadership failures among remaining contestants.
