MAFS Bride Stella Proposes Vasectomy to Husband Filip Amid Intimacy Struggles
In a candid revelation from the Married At First Sight experiment, bride Stella Mickunaite has disclosed the unconventional solution she offered to husband Filip Gregov after their sex life encountered significant difficulties. During an exclusive discussion about the awkward moment aired in Sunday night's Commitment Ceremony, Stella explained she suggested Filip undergo a vasectomy to address his deep-seated fears of accidentally causing a pregnancy.
Pregnancy Paranoia and Intimacy Breakdown
Stella detailed that the conversation emerged after Filip confessed he was "terrified of accidentally getting someone pregnant." She elaborated, "So Filip was paranoid of making someone randomly pregnant and quite frankly, I only want kids in a happy marriage." This tension around pregnancy anxieties became a major point of discussion for the couple, particularly following a period of low intimacy after the emotionally charged couples retreat.
"We also had a rough patch of low intimacy due to my fears in relationships plus the intensity of retreat and this was a big chat for us," Stella admitted. She further clarified her stance on contraception, stating unequivocally that she had no intention of returning to hormonal birth control methods. "I am also never going to go back on birth control as it affects hormones for women," she asserted.
The Vasectomy Proposal and Its Rationale
Instead, Stella proposed what she believed was a straightforward and practical solution. Drawing from her personal experiences, she explained, "As I am well versed in the area of going through miscarriage, birth control and hormones affecting the body, the easiest solution was vasectomy." She emphasized the procedure's simplicity and reversibility, noting, "It's 15 minutes. It's safe. It's reversible. And you can always access sperm when you need it."
Filip responded to the suggestion, acknowledging that the idea initially took him by surprise. "I had a fear of getting someone pregnant as all us men do when we are involved with someone intimately," he said. "Never ever considered to get the snip for anyone. I've never been offered a solution like that before by anyone."
Broader Discussion on Contraceptive Expectations
However, Filip noted that the discussion opened his eyes to a wider societal issue regarding contraceptive responsibilities. He reflected, "I guess this brings up a solid discussion though as to why the expectation that women will always be the ones taking one for the team as you can do it as a man as well." He then humorously questioned, "I guess the rubber is the answer right?" highlighting alternative options.
This revelation comes after Sunday night's episode showcased cracks forming in what had been one of the experiment's strongest relationships. During the Commitment Ceremony, Stella admitted the dynamic between them shifted after Filip confessed he loved her. Rather than feeling reassured, the declaration triggered deep fears of abandonment, with Stella telling the experts, "I have whiplash."
Underlying Relationship Tensions and Expert Intervention
Stella also revealed she had been spiralling over the couple's future outside the experiment, particularly concerning Filip's current lack of plans to relocate to Sydney. "At the moment he doesn't see Sydney as a possibility to move and in my head, this is a break-up," she confessed. Filip acknowledged the pressure had been challenging to navigate, expressing that he sometimes felt Stella was attempting to "take him down a peg" during arguments.
One example he cited was when Stella questioned his masculinity after he declined a night out following a demanding week. The most shocking confirmation, however, was that the couple had ceased physical intimacy, with Stella explaining that Filip's fear of an accidental pregnancy was a primary factor. Her blunt vasectomy suggestion left the MAFS experts visibly stunned.
Relationship expert Alessandra Rampolla questioned whether Filip's fear was being utilized as an excuse, telling the couple, "It almost seems like a little bit of an excuse." Despite the uncomfortable discussion, both Stella and Filip ultimately decided to remain in the experiment. The experts advised Stella to think more carefully before speaking, cautioning that some of her blunt comments could be harming Filip's feelings and exacerbating their communication issues.
Both participants wrote 'stay' at the ceremony, indicating their determination to work through these complex personal and relational challenges as the experiment continues.
