Strictly Star's Wife Discovers 'Weird' Messages in His DMs
Strictly Come Dancing favourite JB Gill has revealed his wife Chloe was left unhappy after discovering what she described as "weird" messages from other parents in his direct messages. The JLS vocalist, who met Chloe when she worked as a backing dancer in 2008 before marrying in 2014, opened up about the incident during a candid conversation on the Netmums podcast with presenter Ranvir Singh.
Parenting Connections Lead to Awkward Situation
The 39-year-old singer explained that he frequently engages with fellow parents during school drop-offs and while accompanying his children to various activities. However, this openness has sometimes led to parents attempting to connect with him through direct messages on social media platforms. Gill confessed that he rarely reads his own DMs, leaving his wife Chloe to monitor his inbox instead.
This arrangement resulted in an awkward incident when a woman whose partner worked as a swimming instructor for their son Ace sent Gill a message that Chloe ended up reading. "I promise you, this was years ago," Gill recalled. "We were doing swimming lessons with Ace, and I very rarely took Ace swimming - Chloe did the bulk of it. When I took Ace swimming, the girlfriend or wife of the swimming teacher DMed me basically saying, 'It's amazing that Ace is doing swimming, you guys should come over for dinner.' And all this sort of stuff."
Different Approaches to Parental Friendships
The discussion unfolded after Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh, mother to 13-year-old Tushaan, admitted she finds maintaining friendships with fellow parents challenging. She explained that as children grow older, their interests change, making parent friendships more complicated. "As he gets older, he doesn't want to sit on the sofa under a duvet and watch a Disney film with you," she shared. "They want to be doing stuff, he wants to be doing active stuff. So for that reason I've made a really good effort to try and be friends with parents."
Singh continued with remarkable honesty: "But I do struggle, and this is a moment of honesty, I do struggle to maintain friendships with parents when you know you're only friends because the kids are friends. Sometimes there have been the odd occasions where I have remained friends even when our children have slightly drifted apart, and that has sometimes been the beauty of the odd friendship here and there."
Contrasting Parental Interaction Styles
The broadcaster then revealed she becomes "incredibly self conscious" during school gate conversations with fathers, explaining: "I felt that since he was a baby, I've always felt incredibly self conscious chatting too long to the dad or whatever. I always felt like I don't want anyone to think I'm honing in. It's in my head."
Meanwhile, Gill, who came second in the 2024 series of Strictly Come Dancing, described himself as quite the opposite - a "very open person" who relishes conversations with other parents. He expressed: "I'm a very open person and I'll go up to someone and have a chat. I'll stand waiting for the kids to come out and just be like, 'Hi Ranvir, how're you? How's Tushaan getting on?' And all that sort of stuff. I suppose that's probably part of, I guess, my work and my career and how I've developed as an individual."
Gill emphasized his genuine interest in other parents' children when there's a connection with his own. "But for me, if I know that your child is in my child's class and they have a relationship with each other and I know who that child is, for me, I'm going to inquire about it. It's not me trying to be forward or anything like that," he clarified.
The couple, who are proud parents to son Ace and daughter Chiara, have navigated the challenges of parenting in the public eye while maintaining their family privacy. Gill's openness about the incident highlights the modern challenges parents face in maintaining appropriate boundaries while building supportive communities around their children's activities.
