In a heartwarming turn of events, one of the 250 poodle-cross dogs rescued from appalling living conditions has found a loving home with a reality television star and his family. The touching adoption story has captured public attention, highlighting the transformative power of animal rescue.
From Filthy Conditions to Family Comfort
The rescue operation, which involved both the RSPCA and Dogs Trust, revealed dogs living crammed together in a dilapidated home, with images of their matted, filthy state shocking the nation. Among these animals was Dexter, a visually impaired cross-breed who has now been adopted by former Love Island contestant Bayley Mummery, 28, and his family in Surrey.
Bayley became the driving force behind the adoption after meeting Dexter at the RSPCA centre in Millbrook, Chobham. He documented the emotional first meeting between Dexter and the family's existing dog, Teddy, on his TikTok page, captioning the heartwarming footage 'my heart is full'. The two dogs instantly bonded, with Dexter excitedly bounding around during their introduction.

The Mummery family had been grieving multiple losses, including their 11-year-old Bichon, Casper, who died from a tumour, and Liz's father, Brian Ford, a former RAF police dog handler who passed away last August. Teddy had become particularly bereft following Casper's death, prompting the family to consider adoption.
Liz Mummery, 52, who works from home as an executive assistant, emphasized that Dexter is not a replacement for Casper but rather a new companion who has brought renewed energy to their household. 'We knew we'd have to do something because Ted was so miserable,' she explained. 'Now Ted is really happy. It just completes us again.'
Instant Bond Between Rescue Dog and Family Pet
Since moving into the family home a few weeks ago, Dexter and Teddy have become inseparable best friends. Liz describes their dynamic: 'When Dexter's crashed out, Ted's kind of sat there with the ball in his mouth, going, "come on", then Dexter's like, "you joking?"' The two dogs play together constantly and enjoy snuggling on the sofa, with Dexter's presence dramatically improving Teddy's mood.
Bayley, who lives with his parents and his autistic 24-year-old brother Ethan, often takes Teddy for walks in Wisley Common—the same woods where his grandfather would walk his dogs.
