Royal photographer Chris Jackson, who serves as the official photographer for Getty Images, has provided a rare glimpse into the true personalities of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Having worked extensively with the couple both during their royal duties and after their move to the United States, Jackson offers unique insights from his global travels and intimate assignments.
Behind the Lens with the Sussexes
Chris Jackson has captured the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in numerous settings, from official engagements to personal moments away from the public eye. He accompanied Prince Harry on trips to locations such as Lesotho and Bali, documenting the royal's humanitarian work and personal interactions. Additionally, Jackson was specially tasked with photographing behind-the-scenes moments at the Invictus Games, an event founded by Harry to support wounded service personnel.
A Positive Professional Relationship
In a recent interview with Page Six during a New York event for his new book, Modern Majesty, Jackson reflected on his experiences. "I've always had a great experience photographing them both," he stated, highlighting the couple's collaborative nature. He praised the Invictus Games as "an incredible achievement" and expressed enjoyment from all his travels with Harry and Meghan, noting they share a "great dynamic."
Capturing Royal Moments
Jackson's portfolio includes significant royal events, such as a photograph taken from the Buckingham Palace balcony on King Charles III's Coronation Day. He also produced a series of family portraits for the King's 70th birthday, featuring Harry and Meghan alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. These images showcase his access to intimate family gatherings and formal occasions alike.
The Art of Royal Photography
Discussing his approach, Jackson emphasized the documentary aspect of his work. "There's all these different characters in the royal family. So I've always enjoyed photographing them. They do very much just crack on with the job, and it's my job to kind of document and tell the story of whatever they're doing on the day," he explained. He noted that while royals understand the importance and power of photography, they typically do not focus on vanity or personal appearance in images.
Unexpected Moments and Professional Insight
Jackson revealed that much of his success stems from spontaneity. "You know, 50 percent of my job is luck. So many of the pictures in the book are unexpected moments," he admitted. This candid approach has allowed him to capture genuine interactions and emotions, contributing to a comprehensive visual record of the modern monarchy. His book, Modern Majesty, features a collection of these images, offering readers a behind-the-scenes look at royal life through his lens.
