Broadcaster and actor Sir Stephen Fry has revealed that the Prince of Wales and his family became devoted viewers of the hit BBC reality show The Celebrity Traitors.
Royal Endorsement for BBC Hit
The 68-year-old star, who appeared in the first celebrity edition of the programme, disclosed the royal viewing habits during an interview on Good Morning Britain. Sir Stephen expressed amazement at the show's broad demographic appeal, stating its impact was "extraordinary."
"The Prince of Wales at the Royal Variety Performance said to me, we were locked into it," Fry recounted, confirming the future king's engagement with the series.
Behind the Scenes of the Traitors' Game
The celebrity spin-off, which aired its nail-biting finale in December 2025, saw a group of famous faces attempt to uncover the 'traitors' among them to win money for charity. The series proved a ratings triumph for the BBC.
Comedian Alan Carr ultimately clinched victory, outwitting fellow finalists historian David Olusoga and actor Nick Mohammed.
Fry admitted he actively lobbied host Claudia Winkleman not to cast him as a traitor. "I told Claudia I didn't want to be one," he said, citing a lack of necessary cunning and adding, "The tension – I just don't think I would have been very good."
Confessions of Cunning and Guilt
Reflecting on the different types of intelligence required, Fry noted that while David Olusoga is "hugely intelligent," the game demanded a specific kind of strategic deceit he felt he lacked.
In contrast, presenter Jonathan Ross was praised for his deceptive gameplay until he became the first traitor banished. However, Ross later confessed he found the experience "quite unpleasant."
"I'll be honest with you, I didn't enjoy it," Ross stated. "I wound up kind of hating it because they're all such lovely people and you're lying through your teeth... So it was in some ways, quite unpleasant." Despite this, he called it a "once in a lifetime experience."
The standard version of The Traitors is set for a highly anticipated return, with its fourth series launching on 1 January at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
