Why Kate and Princess Eugenie Keep Their Distance

The Royal Divide: Kate and Eugenie's Separate Paths

Despite being part of the same royal family and sharing a prestigious educational background, the Princess of Wales and Princess Eugenie have maintained a notable distance from one another. Their relationship, or lack thereof, has sparked curiosity among royal watchers, with experts pointing to key differences that emerged during their formative years.

Shared Beginnings, Divergent Journeys

Kate Middleton and Princess Eugenie both attended Marlborough College, an elite boarding school in Wiltshire with fees reaching £61,000 per year. Additionally, they share a passion for the arts. Eugenie serves as a director at the contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth in London, while Kate holds a master's degree in Art History from the University of St Andrews, where she first met Prince William.

However, these similarities largely end there. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, in an interview with the Daily Mail, explained that Kate does not "have much in common" with either of the York sisters, who are known to be close with each other. He noted that Eugenie appears to associate more with her cousin, stating, "Eugenie, particularly, seems to be closer to Harry."

A Defining Incident at Marlborough College

The divide between the two royals may trace back to their time at Marlborough College. While Kate focused diligently on her studies, Eugenie was involved in a notorious incident in 2008, when she was 18 years old. Following a night of end-of-term drinking, she was caught "frolicking naked on the ground" on the college lawns along with a dozen other students.

A staff member recounted to the Sun, "The girls had been drinking, possibly in a local pub, and decided to let their hair down. For some reason they stripped off and started prancing about. It was light-hearted and they were sort of frolicking like nymphs." The noise from the incident awoke a senior staff member, leading to the students being reprimanded and sent home, only allowed to return for exams.

A source told PA at the time, "It was nothing more than high jinks at the end of term in May. A group of them were reprimanded and that's the end of the matter." This event highlighted the contrasting personalities and approaches of Kate and Eugenie during their school days.

Different Roles in the Royal Family

Since their youth, Kate and Eugenie have taken on distinct roles within the Royal Family. Kate joined the royal ranks in 2011 after a relatively low-key time at college, becoming the Princess of Wales and a senior working royal. Both women have pursued high-powered professional careers and dedicated themselves to charitable causes, but they remain in separate camps.

Their rare public appearances together are typically limited to official royal duties, underscoring the professional rather than personal nature of their relationship. This distance persists despite the potential for social interaction based on their shared interests and family ties.

The ongoing separation between Kate and Eugenie reflects broader dynamics within the Royal Family, where personal connections often align with official responsibilities and historical divisions. As they continue their respective paths, their story serves as a reminder of how early experiences and differing personalities can shape lifelong relationships, even among those bound by blood and tradition.
