Friends Secures New Streaming Home in the UK on HBO Max
Netflix subscribers were left dismayed when the streaming giant confirmed it would drop the beloved sitcom Friends from its catalogue in December. The series, which originally aired on NBC from 1994 to 2004, had been available on Netflix since 2018, with all ten seasons accessible for viewing.

Following the announcement of its departure on December 30, UK fans expressed their frustration on social media. One user vented on X, stating, "You cannot take Friends off Netflix. Every night without fail I watch it." Another echoed, "How can Netflix be taking Friends off in the UK? Literally the ONLY thing I go onto Netflix everyday for, I watch it non-stop back to back, my absolute comfort show, may as well cancel my subscription." A fifth concluded, "Genuinely heartbroken Friends is being taken off of Netflix. Best TV show of all time."
HBO Max Launch and Availability
However, the situation is not all bleak. All ten seasons of Friends will shortly be available to stream on HBO Max, which launches in the UK on March 26. The platform has operated in the United States since 2020 and will be accessible in the UK and Ireland from just £4.99 per month. HBO Max will also feature other popular series, including Game of Thrones and Succession, along with content from HBO, Warner Bros, DC Studios, and Max Originals.
Exclusive Content and Bundling Options
Beyond Friends, the streaming service will offer a wide range of programmes. The return of series like Euphoria, House of the Dragon, and The Comeback, alongside forthcoming productions such as the Harry Potter TV series and DC Studios' Lanterns, will be available. Oscar-nominated films like Sinners and One Battle Another, which appeared in cinemas last year, will also be included. Previously, HBO-produced shows were available in the UK through Sky and NOW, but from March 26 onwards, this content will be exclusive to HBO Max subscribers.
The two companies have reached an agreement that enables members to bundle both NOW and HBO Max subscriptions together. This change will automatically transition all NOW Entertainment subscribers, ensuring HBO Max is available for streaming in over 10 million households on its launch day. Friends will be available to stream on HBO Max starting March 26, providing fans with a new home for their favourite comfort show.
