Christina Ricci's Blunt 'Yikes' Comment on Katy Perry's Met Gala Outfit Goes Viral
Christina Ricci's 'Yikes' on Katy Perry's Met Gala Look

Forget Joan Rivers; Christina Ricci now appears to be offering snarky commentary on Met Gala outfits. The Emmy-nominated actress, 46, left a shady comment beneath a photo of Katy Perry at the fashion extravaganza, which was posted to Variety's Instagram page on Monday night.

Katy Perry's Outfit Draws Criticism

Perry, 41, wore what commenters agreed was one of the worst outfits at the gala, teaming her white dress with a metal and mesh mask that made her look like a professional fencer. 'Yikes,' Ricci bluntly wrote beneath the Variety post, clearly unimpressed with Perry's look.

The Yellowjackets actress gained plaudits on Reddit for her unfiltered remark, with many loving her critique of the couture. 'Christina’s unfiltered commentary online is my favorite,' one said, while another added, 'Same! I never skip Christina’s posts because that lady is always spot on about everything lmao.'

Met Gala Appearance Amid Allegations

Monday's Met Gala was Perry's first appearance since sexual assault allegations were leveled at her by Australian actress Ruby Rose. Last month, Perry blasted Rose's 'dangerous and reckless lies' as she vehemently denied the claims.

Rose, 40, who appeared in Orange Is The New Black, claimed in a social media post that the incident with the singer took place at a Melbourne nightclub in 2010, when she was in her twenties. Rose added that it had taken her 'almost two decades' to speak about it publicly.

However, a representative for Katy hit back at Rose's comments in a statement to the Daily Mail, saying: 'The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies. Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.'

Ricci's Remark Goes Viral

Ricci's remark gained her plaudits on Reddit, as multiple commenters hailed her honesty on the social media platform. Perry hid her face at least for a little while as she sported a metal and white mesh mask on the iconic stairs of the yearly event, which drew comparisons to the sport of fencing and even her controversial Blue Origin space mission from last year. The singer also wore a matching white long strapless gown with trailing cape.

Making the allegations in a post shared to Threads, Rose wrote: 'Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s**t what she thinks.' She added: 'I was only in my early 20s. I'm now 40. It has taken almost two decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me.'

Ongoing Feud and Career Turmoil

It is not the first time the Australian actress has criticized Perry in public. She described the singer's track Swish Swish as 'purposeful poop' in 2017. However, Rose backtracked on the comments just days later, writing on X: 'Being mean doesn't suit me and leaves me feeling dirty. Truth is being mean leaves more leaks in your camp than the titanic and I get so triggered when I think bullies don't get held accountable and it makes me think I should say something... but it's not [my] place.'

While Perry was previously considered one of the world's biggest pop stars, she has seemingly been on a downward spiral and her latest music has failed to revive her career. Last year, she drew criticism for taking part in the Blue Origin space flight, alongside Jeff Bezos's wife Lauren Sanchez, with one PR expert even suggesting the singer could face 'career extinction'.

Once the furor of her space mission died down, Perry suffered heartbreak in her personal life as she split from her fiancé, Orlando Bloom. Despite the personal turmoil, Perry has since performed across five continents on her Lifetimes Tour and is now dating the former Canadian prime minister. However, the 54-year-old public figure was noticeably missing from the Met Gala festivities.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, falls on the first Monday in May every year. The theme of this year's event - widely considered the Super Bowl of celebrity red carpets - was Costume Art, while the dress code was 'Fashion is Art.'
