Coronation Street fans have expressed outrage over a 'ridiculous' blunder involving Jodie Ramsay (Olivia Frances-Brown) during a police interview scene that aired on Tuesday, June 30. Viewers took to social media to criticize the soap for what they called a 'totally unrealistic' moment, with many declaring that 'viewers deserve better.'
Jodie's Troubled History on the Cobbles
Jodie made her debut in January during the Corriedale crossover episode before arriving in Weatherfield, where she revealed herself as the long-lost half-sister of Shona Platt (Julia Goulding). Since then, she has caused significant drama, including attempting to seduce brother-in-law David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) and stealing from residents. In April, she attacked Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) on the night of Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) murder.
The Blunder in Tuesday's Episode
In the June 30 episode, Sarah confronted Jodie after realizing she was her attacker, but was interrupted by Detective Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), who arrived with fresh questions. Lisa interviewed Sarah at the Platt house while Jodie made tea and listened to the conversation. Fans pointed out that a police interview should be private and confidential, especially with a suspect present.
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer wrote: 'Surely Lisa couldn't interview Sarah with Jodie there, it's getting ridiculous.' Another added: 'I thought that too, soooo awkward! I’m quite sure a police interview would be private and confidential even when it’s not at the station.' A third fan said: 'Totally unrealistic.' Others echoed the sentiment, with one stating: 'My thoughts exactly!' and another remarking: 'Susan Bray 100 per cent terrible mistakes the viewers could do better.'
Actress Olivia Frances-Brown on Jodie's Role
Speaking about her character, Olivia Frances-Brown said: 'Trouble follows her around like a bad smell. She is always caught up in the chaos. Whatever’s going on, if there is any chaos in the street, she’ll probably be at the heart of it. It’s the way that she is. It’s who she is. It’s the way she has learnt to deal with things. It’s the way she goes through life.'
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
