Coronation Street viewers are convinced that Sarah Platt is planning to frame Jodie Ramsay for the murder of Theo Silverton, potentially sealing Jodie's exit from the soap. The theory emerged after Sarah killed Theo in April and later discovered that Jodie was her attacker on the same night.
Sarah's deadly secret
In April, abuser Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) was killed following his campaign of terror against Todd (Gareth Pierce). The whodunnit initially pointed to multiple suspects, including Todd, Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Gary Windass (Mikey North), and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson). However, it was revealed that Sarah (Tina O'Brien) struck Theo with a metal pole atop scaffolding, causing him to fall to his death.
Compounding the situation, on the same evening, Sarah was assaulted by Jodie Ramsay (Olivia Frances-Brown). For weeks, Sarah was unaware of her attacker's identity until recent episodes, when Jodie's comments about that night raised Sarah's suspicions, according to the Daily Star.
Confrontation and threats
This week, after piecing together the truth, Sarah confronted Jodie directly. When Sarah threatened to involve the police, Jodie retaliated by warning that she knows Sarah is hiding something about Theo's death. Since then, tensions between the two women have escalated, catching the attention of David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd).
In Wednesday's episode (July 1), David pressed Sarah for answers about her conflict with Jodie. Unable to reveal the truth without admitting to murder, Sarah assured David that everything was fine. However, fans speculate that Sarah and David may team up to frame Jodie, leading to her departure.
Fan theories
Viewers have taken to social media to share their predictions. One person on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page wrote: "I think the Platts will frame Jodie for Theo's murder." Another added: "Hopefully!" A third commented: "David and Sarah vs Jodie." Others echoed the sentiment: "Yes especially now David knows something is going on" and "Maybe that leads to Jodie's exit? Can't see her staying on the street after it comes out."
Actress on Jodie's character
Discussing her character, actress Olivia Frances-Brown said: "Trouble follows her around like a bad smell. She is always caught up in the chaos. Whatever's going on, if there is any chaos in the street, she'll probably be at the heart of it. It's the way that she is. It's who she is. It's the way she has learnt to deal with things. It's the way she goes through life."
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
