David Tennant's child Red Tennant has made an unexpected cameo in the new Netflix feminist romcom Ladies First, which stars Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike. The film has quickly climbed to the number one spot on the streaming platform since its release.
Plot of Ladies First
Ladies First tells the story of Damien Sachs, played by Sacha Baron Cohen, a charismatic but arrogant ladies' man who enjoys a life of wealth and power. After suffering a head injury, he wakes up in a parallel world dominated by women, turning his life upside down. In this world, he encounters his business rival Alex Fox, portrayed by Rosamund Pike, who is also the mother of Charlie, a character brought to life by Red Tennant.
Red Tennant's Role
Red Tennant, who is the non-binary child of Broadchurch star David Tennant, plays Charlie, the child of Alex Fox. Charlie encourages their mother to "stand up for herself at work" when she has doubts about her career. This marks Red's latest acting role after their debut in the 2017 film You, Me and Him, which also starred their famous father. Red also appeared in a single episode of Casualty in 2022, playing a character named Joey Parker.
Family Background
Red Tennant is the child of David Tennant and his wife Georgia Tennant. The couple met in 2008 on the set of Doctor Who, where Georgia guest-starred as Jenny, the artificially created daughter of Tennant's Tenth Doctor. Georgia is also the real-life daughter of Peter Davison, who played the fifth Doctor in the 1980s.
Reception of Ladies First
While Ladies First has topped Netflix's most-watched list, it has divided viewers, scoring only 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. One critic wrote: "I am truly overwhelmed how this made it to the screen. If I said it was utter rubbish, I would be being polite! I have no words how awful it was." However, another user called it an "absolute must-see," and someone else stated it was one of their "new favourites."
Ladies First is available to watch on Netflix now.
