In the penultimate episode of HBO's Euphoria, titled 'Rain or Shine,' Sydney Sweeney's character Cassie Jacobs once again appeared topless in a graphic sex scene. The episode, which aired on Sunday, is part of the third and final season of the drama series.
Cassie's Desperate Plan
After deleting her OnlyFans account to pursue a legitimate acting career, Cassie was desperate to gain social media followers and raise $550,000 to rescue her kidnapped husband, Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi). Her manager, Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie), arranged a date with actor Dylan Reid (Homer James Jigme Gere, son of Richard Gere) and ensured paparazzi were present.
Back at her apartment, Cassie easily seduced the heartthrob. The explicit scene showed her pleading with Dylan to wait for her climax, but he was too exhausted and needed water. Creator Sam Levinson is known for including gratuitous nudity and sex in the drug-fueled drama.
A Scheming Move
Once alone, Cassie used Dylan's passcode to post their selfie on his Instagram, declaring she was the 'best f***' he ever had. This boosted her followers but did not stop Armenian loan shark Naz (Jack Topalian) from demanding the ransom. He threw her into a glass table and gave her 72 hours to get $1 million, or Nate would die in an underground coffin with only a breathing pipe.
Maddy, revealing her true feelings for Cassie, slept with strip club owner Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) to secure the ransom. At the construction site, Alamo shot Naz dead, then demanded a 20% cut of Cassie's future earnings.
Nate's Grisly Fate
Cassie and Maddy opened the coffin to find Nate dead from a rattlesnake that had entered through the breathing pipe. Elordi reflected on the scene, calling it a 'cool way to go' for a character who made many dark choices. He noted the snake was a 'cute, cuddly' boa constrictor with a fake rattle.
The episode also featured a cameo from producer Brian Grazer, who told showrunner Patricia Lance (Sharon Stone) to fire Cassie.
Rue's Storyline
Rue Bennett (Zendaya) discussed her Bible devotion with Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow) and revealed she works with the DEA, information that reaches Alamo. She reunited with drug counselor Ali Muhammad (Colman Domingo), whose backstory included a cameo from Natasha Lyonne. Rue returned to her old boss Laurie's compound for a DEA bust on 80 kilos of fentanyl.
Faye Valentine (Chloe Cherry) initially conspired with Rue but betrayed her when the safe contained only IDs of missing women.
The series finale airs on May 31. Season three holds a 40% critic and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes despite high viewership.
