Great British Bake Off stalwart Dame Prue Leith has made a delightfully awkward admission ahead of the show's highly anticipated Christmas special, pleading with fans 'don't tell them'.
A Festive Peep Show Crossover
The festive edition, titled The Great Peep Show Christmas Bake Off, is set to bring a slice of cult comedy to the famous tent. It will feature stars from the beloved Channel 4 series Peep Show, including David Mitchell, Olivia Colman, Isy Suttie, Matt King, and Sophie Winkleman, as they tackle a series of seasonal baking challenges.
The special, scheduled for broadcast on Christmas Day from 8pm to 9:15pm on Channel 4, will be presented by the regular duo of Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond. The celebrity bakers' efforts will be judged in the usual manner by baking legends Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.
'I Had Never Even Heard of Peep Show'
In a recent interview, however, Prue revealed a surprising gap in her television knowledge. Speaking candidly to Woman's Own magazine, the 85-year-old judge confessed she was entirely unfamiliar with the show featuring her latest batch of contestants.
'I had never even heard of Peep Show. Please don't tell them!' Leith exclaimed. She did add, 'But I watched it and I loved it.'
Prue expanded on her confession, explaining that such scenarios are not uncommon for her when judging celebrity editions. 'To be honest, I'm normally bluffing my head off with the celebrities because I don't watch any telly,' she said. 'The only ones I'm likely to know are actors of a certain age.'
Prue's Previous Gardening Gaffe
This is not the first time Prue Leith's frank comments have caused a stir recently. Last month, she left gardening expert Alan Titchmarsh 'gobsmacked' during an appearance on his ITV show, Love Your Weekend.
While discussing homegrown vegetables with fellow guest Robert Bathurst, Prue questioned the practicality of dealing with a summer glut of produce. 'If you're growing vegetables, what do you do with all the produce that hits you in the summer? There's all these b***y tomatoes and all these piles of spinach,' she asked.
She shared her own experience of freezing vast quantities only to discard them later, concluding that supermarkets offer 'perfectly good packets' for her needs. A stunned Titchmarsh joked in response, 'If only we could edit that out... Prue Leith famous cook, don't bother growing it, it's in the supermarket.'
Viewers can tune in to see how Prue and Paul handle the Peep Show cast in the kitchen during the Great Peep Show Christmas Bake Off on Channel 4 this Christmas Day at 8pm.
