Rylan Clark returns to his Essex roots for a new three-part series on Sky History, exploring historic witch trials in Chelmsford, which he calls 'witchcraft ground zero'. The first episode focuses on the Elizabethan era, when a poor family of three women faced the death penalty. Professor Alice Roberts joins Clark to investigate the social and historical context behind the trials.
The documentary, airing at 9pm, is part of an evening lineup that includes an exposé of the international dog-fighting trade on BBC Two at 9pm, where journalist Patrick Fee uncovers a secret network stretching from Antrim to Amsterdam. Sky Arts also features a look at artistic depictions of the devil, presented by critic Waldemar Januszczak.
Other highlights include Channel 4's reality road trip in Japan at 9.15pm, BBC Three's comedy drama at 10pm, and a BBC Four documentary at 10pm about a Russian teacher covertly filming the impact of Putinist propaganda. The late film is 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye', a biopic of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker.
