Coronation Street: Brody Kidnaps Man for Boss Idris

Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) turns to the dark side on Coronation Street next week as he commits a kidnap for his new boss, Idris Nazir (Junade Khan). The troubled teen, who has been living with foster parents Sally and Tim Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine), finds himself drawn into criminal activity once again.

Brody's Troubled Past

Brody first arrived on the cobbles as a manipulative and violent resident of the young offender's institute where Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) was held. He used a combination of scheming and violence to maintain control, but viewers later learned he was a product of his environment. His mother Lou (Farrel Hegarty) had a hidden heart, but his alleged father Mick (Joe Layton) was rotten to the core. When Brody discovered his real father was Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), he spiralled further out of control.

Mick ended up with a long prison sentence for killing loveable copper Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), while Lou was also sentenced after bashing local bad lad Gary Windass (Mikey North). With a strained relationship with his biological dad, Brody and his sisters Joanie and Shanice (Savanna Pennington and Molly Kilduff) were left alone.

A Fresh Start with the Metcalfes

The Metcalfes welcomed all three Michaelis children into their home, fostering them and providing a stable, loving, and crime-free environment. While moving in with Tim and Sally didn't instantly soften all of Brody's rough edges, he became much more pleasant than before. However, that changes when charismatic newcomer Idris Nazir arrives and immediately begins grooming Brody as an apprentice.

Brody is incredibly impressed by Idris's flashy arrival and is not blind to his darker side, having witnessed him walling up poor Damo (Jake Parry), who owed him money.

The Kidnapping Plot

Next week, Brody's new boss encounters trouble when his tenant, Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine), takes her young son to hospital due to mould in the flat. As Idris laments the situation to Brody, they are clocked by Abi herself. She later tells a horrified Sally Metcalfe that she saw Brody bundling a man into a car. Abi pales further when Brody hands her some cash to put toward housekeeping.

The question remains: what has Idris gotten Brody involved in? The kidnapping marks a major turning point for the character, who seemed to be on a path to redemption.
