Channel 5 has confirmed the return of the thriller series Lie With Me, which originally aired in 2021. The broadcaster will reshow all four episodes throughout this week, starting Monday, July 6, at 9pm. These repeats replace the second airing of the 2022 drama Riptide, which aired last week.
Plot and Cast
The series stars Charlie Brooks, best known for playing Janine Butcher in EastEnders from 1999 to 2022, as Anna, a woman seeking a fresh start for her marriage in Australia with her husband and two young children. The couple hires a young local nanny who harbors dark secrets. Anna's husband, Jake Fallmont, is played by Australian actor Brett Tucker, who gained fame as Daniel Fitzgerald on Neighbours from 1992 to 2010.
Production and Reception
Lie With Me was developed by Neighbours showrunner Jason Herbison, who also created other Channel 5 thrillers like The Imposter and Riptide. The series aired on Paramount+ in the United States under the title With Intent. It received strong reviews, with viewers praising its twists and unexpected ending.
One IMDb reviewer commented: "Gripping with a truly surprise ending. I loved this show from start to finish, it really hooks you in by making you think it's going to go one way but then it goes another. Charlie Brooks is excellent and two other actors play their parts well too, at times you feel like you are on all their sides. The ending is quite twisted and I didn't see it coming. Only criticism is it could've been longer."
A second viewer added: "I loved it! Lots of twists and turns, which kept my attention throughout. They managed to show the story well in only 4 episodes without it feeling rushed. Thought all the cast were superb, so well done to them and to Channel 5."
A third remarked: "I describe this a best kept secret as I'd never heard of it when it first came out apparently in 2021. It's a relationship drama about a woman who seems crazy and neurotic but then you realise she's actually being set up by the people closest to her. It keeps you hooked as it seems it will go in one direction but then it goes in another. Charlie Brooks is excellent, if you've ever seen her in EastEnders this will show a completely different side."
