Tributes Paid to Ex-Social Services Director in Funeral Notices

Funeral notices published in the Chronicle this week include tributes to John Thomas Nix, a former Director of Social Services for North Tyneside, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on 16th June 2026 at the age of 90. Mr Nix was also the founder and owner of an outstanding residential care home company. He is survived by his wife Sandra, daughters Amanda and Rebecca, son-in-law Andy, grandchildren Maisy, Nathaniel and Noah, and brother Arthur. His funeral service and cremation will take place at Oakworth Crematorium on Friday 10th July at 11:30am. Family flowers only are requested; donations in his memory may be made to the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

He was a dearly loved husband of Iris, father of Paul, and brother of Foster and Ian. Eileen Clark passed away peacefully at Wordsworth House on Thursday 11th June 2026, aged 80. She was the devoted wife of Brian, loving mother of Allison and Lindsey, step-mother to Lorraine and Darrin, and treasured grandmother of Sam and Elodie. Her funeral service will be at West Road Crematorium on Friday 3rd July at 11.45am. Family flowers only; donations may be made to Alzheimer's Research UK.

Barrie Colman died peacefully at home on 16th June 2026, aged 74. He was the beloved husband of Joan, father of Lee, John, Mark, John, Catherine and Mandy, and a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. The funeral service will be at Whitley Bay Cemetery Chapel on Wednesday 8th July at 12.45pm, followed by interment at Earsdon Cemetery. Doris Allan, formerly of Leam Lane, died peacefully in hospital on 18th June aged 88. She is survived by her children Diane, Danny, David and Debbie, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David Edmond Bamford, of Denton Burn, died after a short illness on 14th June 2026, aged 69. He was a dearly loved husband, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend. Harry Frederick Betts, of Battle Hill, died peacefully in hospital on 12th June, aged 97. He was the beloved husband of the late Hazel, father of Ian, Warren, Jason, Deborah and Jacqueline, and a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. Maureen Cruddas passed away peacefully on 29th May 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She was a devoted wife to the late Bill and a much loved mother and grandmother. Pauline Fothergill (née Lamb), of Windy Nook, passed peacefully at Springvale Care Home on 18th June 2026, aged 76, with her husband Eddie of over 50 years by her side. Harry Collinson, of Durham, is remembered as a truly gentle man, deeply loved and missed always by Caroline.

Thomasina Hodgson (Tommy/Tina), of West Denton, is remembered on the fourteenth anniversary of her passing by her family Carol, Craig, Joanne and Alastair.

Anthony (Twan) Spence is remembered on the tenth anniversary of his death by his uncle Den, auntie Florence and family.
