Gardeners plagued by rats are being urged to try a natural remedy that experts claim is highly effective. Peppermint oil, when mixed with water and sprayed around the garden, can repel rodents without the use of harsh chemicals.
According to pest control specialists from Dan's Carpet Care, peppermint oil is a popular natural deterrent that is safe for humans and pets. To use it, combine equal parts peppermint oil and water in a spray bottle and apply liberally around the garden perimeter.
The strong scent attracts rats, but the repellent effect then causes them to flee. Experts also recommend keeping the garden tidy by mowing the lawn, trimming bushes, and removing potential shelter spots to make the area less inviting.
Harvesting fruit trees promptly, pruning branches, and thinning foliage can further deter rodents. Additionally, placing sheds, compost bins, and birdseed stations away from prime garden spots helps keep rats at bay.
