When it comes to keeping a home clean, one area that can go months without a good clean is the kitchen sink. Endless dishwashing means food residue builds up on the draining board, while unsightly watermarks appear down the sink's sides. Nicola Roy, a multimedia content creator, decided to pit two budget cleaning sprays against each other to discover which performed best: The Pink Stuff multi-purpose cleaning spray and the Elbow Grease All Purpose Degreaser.
The Test Setup
Both products were purchased at Home Bargains. The Pink Stuff spray cost 99p, while the Elbow Grease option was slightly pricier at £1.19. To thoroughly test each one, Roy applied one spray to the draining board and the other to the sink and tap. Both areas were looking shabby after remaining uncleaned for longer than she would like to admit.
Elbow Grease Results
First up was the Elbow Grease spray, tested on the sink basin and tap. The spray is a degreaser, marketed as the 'only cleaner you'll ever need' on the bottle. It claims to cut through grease on kitchen surfaces. After spritzing and wiping, the watermarks disappeared and the sink was gleaming. However, heading back into the kitchen around 15 minutes later revealed that some marks had started to return, and it was noticeably still a bit grimy. A second application managed to shift the majority of blemishes. The spray worked brilliantly on the tap, which was left sparkling after just a single use.
Pink Stuff Results
Moving on to the Pink Stuff spray, tested on the draining board. According to the bottle: "Our versatile multi-purpose cleaning spray for hard surfaces is tough on stains, penetrates and removes grease and grime, leaving shiny clean results." Using the product is straightforward: spritz, leave for a couple of seconds, then wipe with a damp cloth before finishing with a dry one. Roy was pleasantly surprised to discover the stains lifted away instantly, requiring next to no scrubbing. The surface appeared noticeably more gleaming after buffing away the product. After leaving it for the same duration as the Elbow Grease test, the draining board had retained its shine, entirely free of streaks.
Verdict
While both sprays offer their own benefits, the Pink Stuff option would be Roy's top pick for achieving a spotlessly clean sink. It also happens to be the more budget-friendly choice at 99p. The Pink Stuff spray worked instantly, required no scrubbing, and left a streak-free shine that lasted.
