Georgia Dentist's Licence Suspended Over Patient Safety Threats
The Georgia Board of Dentistry has taken emergency action to suspend the licence of Dr Justin Scott, 44, following multiple reports of severe health issues from patients at his Atlanta practice. Multiple Patient Complaints Lead to Investigation
According to documents obtained by the Daily Mail, the board received reliable reports from several orthodontic patients at Scott's Pure Dental Health practice. One patient reported receiving dental implants that ultimately failed, with subsequent examination revealing bone necrosis—dead tissue often caused by infection—at the implant site.
Another patient experienced significant root resorption in both upper and lower teeth, putting her at risk of losing her front teeth entirely. In a third case, a patient discovered there was no orthodontist actually practicing at the facility and immediately discontinued treatment. Her new dentist later identified multiple conditions requiring correction due to poor orthodontic treatment received at Scott's practice.
Deceptive Billing Practices and Sanitary Violations
The suspension order further accuses Scott of engaging in deceitful and misleading billing practices. One patient was allegedly presented with a written treatment plan and invoice for $20,000 covering both maxillary and mandibular treatment. After signing and paying the full amount, the patient was informed the plan was not intended to include the lower arch, with the practice claiming the documentation contained errors.
Investigators who inspected Scott's facilities on September 10 documented extensive failures in sanitary practice, sterilization, and infection control. Violations included improper sterilization techniques and record-keeping, failure to maintain maintenance logs, expired medical supplies, improper instrument storage, an ineffective eye wash station, and the presence of an animal on the premises.
Emergency Action and Practice Closure
The state board concluded that continued use of Scott's dental licence posed a significant threat to public health, safety, and welfare, necessitating immediate emergency action. His licence was summarily suspended without a hearing, though Scott retains the right to request a hearing to potentially regain his licence.
When contacted by the Daily Mail for comment, neither Scott nor Pure Dental Health responded.
