A popular frozen food product sold at Costco has been voluntarily recalled due to concerns over salmonella contamination. Champion Foods has issued a recall for its Motor City Pizza Co 5 Cheese Bread after it was discovered that the milk powder used in the product may have been contaminated with the bacteria.
Details of the Recall
The milk powder in question was supplied by a third-party manufacturer, California Dairies, and is used in the seasoning blend for the Motor City sauce. Champion Foods stated that routine testing by the seasoning blend manufacturer initially showed negative results for salmonella. However, the company decided to recall the product out of an abundance of caution for customer safety.
To date, no reports of illness or injury related to these products have been received by Champion Foods or its suppliers. The recall affects sell dates between February 4, 2027, and April 21, 2027, covering both single and double packs of the 5 Cheese Bread.
Customer Guidance
Costco has sent notices to its members, advising them to either discard the product or return it to the store for a full refund. Customers are urged to check their freezers for the affected items and take appropriate action.
About Salmonella
Salmonella is a bacterial infection that commonly causes symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. It is the most frequent cause of food poisoning in the United States, with over one million infections annually. While often associated with undercooked chicken, almost any uncooked food can become contaminated. Symptoms typically appear within a few hours to a few days after consumption and can last between three and seven days. Most cases resolve without medical intervention, but severe infections may require antibiotics.
