Motability Operations, the company behind the Motability Scheme, is set to publish its new Winter price list for leasing packages on January 1. The price list, which is updated every three months, will be available on the Motability Scheme website. The current list, launched on October 1, includes more than 880 vehicles.
The scheme currently serves 815,000 customers across Great Britain, including around 80,000 in Scotland who use the Accessible Vehicles and Equipment Scheme. Both schemes are identical, with the name varying by region. They allow individuals receiving the higher or enhanced rate of the mobility component of certain disability benefits to lease a new car, wheelchair-accessible vehicle, scooter, or powered wheelchair.
Qualifying benefits include Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Adult Disability Payment (ADP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Scottish Adult DLA, War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement, and Armed Forces Independence Payment. A full list of qualifying benefits and required award levels is available on the Motability website.
Customers leasing a vehicle also receive insurance, breakdown assistance, servicing, maintenance, tyres, and windscreen repairs as part of the package. While some vehicles require only part or all of the mobility award, most require an advance payment ranging from £100 to £2,000.
Following the Autumn Budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced changes to tax exemptions for the Motability Scheme, leading to extra costs. Motability stated it will review how the scheme operates to keep it affordable, but current leases will not be affected. Social Security Scotland confirmed that leasing is arranged through Motability Operations Ltd, and applicants must present their certificate of entitlement when visiting a dealership.
