A paediatrician specialising in childhood behavioural issues has been charged following allegations that he sexually assaulted one of his patients. The 41-year-old man, who practices at multiple locations across Perth, was charged on May 29 with persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16 and possession of child exploitation material after a police investigation.
Details of the Charges
The accused operates from medical facilities in Midland and Nedlands, focusing on behavioural problems affecting children. Western Australia Police confirmed that detectives have seized electronic devices and data belonging to the man, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
Court Appearance
The Wembley resident appeared before Northbridge Magistrates Court on May 30, where he was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear again at Perth Magistrates Court on June 8.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have been affected or who has information relevant to the case to come forward. Reports of sexual abuse can be made by calling 131 444 or through the secure Safe2Say reporting service.
The allegations have shocked the local community, given the doctor's role in treating vulnerable children with behavioural issues. Police continue their investigation, with further charges possible as forensic analysis proceeds.
