Perrie Edwards Welcomes Baby Girl After Heartbreaking Miscarriages
Perrie Edwards and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain welcome baby girl

Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards and her fiancé, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, have announced the joyful arrival of their second child, a baby girl. The couple, both 32, shared the heartwarming news on Instagram this Saturday.

A Joyful Announcement After a Difficult Journey

Perrie Edwards revealed the birth of her daughter with a sweet snapshot posted to her social media. The new baby, named Alanis Valentine, is a little sister for the couple's four-year-old son, Axel. The post was quickly flooded with congratulatory messages from fans and famous friends, including her former bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

The couple, who got engaged in 2022 after five years together, first announced they were expecting their second child in September. They shared an adorable black-and-white video of their son Axel kissing his mother's growing baby bump.

A Candid Revelation of Heartbreak

This happy news comes just weeks after Perrie gave a raw and emotional account of experiencing two devastating miscarriages. Speaking on Paul C Brunson's 'We Need To Talk' podcast, she opened up about the profound grief she and Alex endured.

She revealed that before welcoming son Axel, she suffered an early miscarriage with her first pregnancy. Axel is a rainbow baby, born after that loss. Perrie admitted the experience left her 'on edge' throughout her subsequent pregnancy with him, desperate to pass the 12-week milestone.

Tragically, the couple faced further heartbreak. About a year after Axel's birth, while rehearsing for Little Mix's final tour in 2022, Perrie discovered she was pregnant again. This pregnancy ended in a late-term loss at around 24 weeks, which she described as 'the worst day of my life'.

She recalled the trauma of the 22-week scan, an out-of-body experience where she knew something was wrong. The subsequent physical and emotional aftermath was harrowing, compounded by her body still producing milk after the loss.

Leaning on Each Other Through Grief

Perrie praised Alex for his unwavering support during their ordeal, though she noted he too was deeply traumatised. She said he focused on trying to stay strong for her, often putting his own grief aside. 'We are very lucky to have each other,' she stated, emphasising their mutual loss.

In a separate interview with The Athletic last month, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also spoke about the impact of the miscarriages. He acknowledged it took them a long time to feel ready to try for another child again. He described the discomfort of being asked about the pregnancy months after their loss and highlighted how having Axel gave them a crucial focus during their grief.

Alex, currently without a club after leaving Turkish side Besiktas, said it had been nice to be home to support Perrie in the lead-up to the birth and to spend time with their son.

The birth of Alanis Valentine marks a new chapter of hope and happiness for the family, following a journey marked by both profound loss and resilience.
