The Dallas Cowboys have announced the creation of a memorial fund to support the pregnant girlfriend of Marshawn Kneeland, the team's defensive lineman who died tragically earlier this month.
A Legacy of Support
Coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that Catalina Mancera, Kneeland's girlfriend, is expecting their child. In response, the NFL franchise has established The Marshawn Kneeland Memorial Fund to ensure the long-term care and financial security of Mancera and the couple's unborn baby.
Tragic Circumstances
Kneeland, who was just 24 years old, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death followed a police pursuit in Frisco, Texas. It was reported that the athlete had previously expressed suicidal thoughts, casting a shadow over his promising career.
Team Tributes and Remembrance
The Cowboys organisation is planning several lasting tributes to honour their late teammate. For the remainder of the season, players will wear memorial decals on their helmets and special T-shirts during upcoming games. A poignant moment of silence and a video tribute are scheduled for the November 22 home game against the Philadelphia Eagles. This commemoration comes just weeks after Kneeland scored his first NFL touchdown, a poignant highlight in his final days.
