ITV's resident doctor Dr Hilary Jones has revealed he was rushed to hospital over Christmas after suffering from a virus and later diagnosed with pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining around the heart. Appearing on Tuesday's Lorraine, he told host Lorraine Kelly about the 'scary' ordeal.
Dr Hilary explained that after experiencing chest pain, paramedics performed an ECG which initially suggested a heart attack. However, after analysing the trace together, they diagnosed pericarditis. 'It was quite painful and I wasn't quite sure what it was at first,' he said, praising the paramedics as 'brilliant'.
He was blue-lighted to Pembury Hospital, which he described as 'great' despite being inundated with patients. Dr Hilary confirmed he is now 'absolutely fine'.
Lorraine expressed her concern, saying she was 'very, very worried' when she heard he had been taken to hospital. Dr Hilary also shared his condolences following the death of Lorraine's father, John, aged 84, who died after being found injured in East Kilbride.
