A judge has granted rapper Lil Nas X permission to enter a specialised mental health diversion programme, which could ultimately result in the dismissal of serious felony charges against him for allegedly attacking Los Angeles police officers.

Judge Alan Schneider informed the "Old Town Road" singer during a court hearing on Monday that if he successfully completes his treatment programme and adheres to all laws for a period of two years, the four felony counts he faces will be dismissed. The court determined that the incident, which led to the charges, was a direct consequence of his recently diagnosed bipolar disorder and represented a significant deviation from his typical behaviour.
Programme Requirements and Conditions
The programme, formally known as a postponement of prosecution probation, imposes strict conditions on Lil Nas X, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill. He is prohibited from possessing firearms and must refrain from making any threats of violence. Authorities allege that the 26-year-old artist was walking naked down a street in LA's San Fernando Valley in August and charged at police officers who were responding to emergency calls about him.
A criminal complaint states that three officers sustained injuries during the confrontation. Photos and video footage, apparently captured prior to the police intervention, showed him walking in the street wearing only white briefs and white boots.

Lil Nas X had previously pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of battery with injury on a police officer, along with one count of resisting an executive officer. Following his release on bail, he posted a video on Instagram a few days later, describing the experience as "terrifying" but reassuring his fans that he would be fine.
Outside the courtroom on Monday, he told Rolling Stone magazine, which first reported on the diversion agreement, that he felt "thankful. Just very thankful," adding that the situation "could have been much worse." The District Attorney's Office has not responded to requests for comment regarding the case.
