Serena Williams Shows Off Slimmer Frame After Weight Loss Drug Backlash

Serena Williams has displayed her body transformation in a series of Instagram posts, weeks after facing criticism for using weight loss medication. The 44-year-old tennis legend, who lost 31 pounds with the drug Zepbound, was seen in underwear and a tank top brushing her teeth in her bathroom.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion later wore a grey checked pencil skirt and matching jacket over a white tank top, accessorising with hoop earrings and a gold necklace. She also stepped out in a £2,550 Burberry cape over brown leggings and a white T-shirt.

Williams sparked backlash last summer when she revealed her weight loss was aided by Zepbound, a GLP-1 medication. Critics accused her of undermining the body positivity movement. One fan wrote: 'I'm deeply disappointed... as an ex-athlete that has been into body positivity.'

Despite the controversy, Williams has doubled down on her promotion of the drug through her partnership with telehealth company Ro. She stars in a Super Bowl commercial airing on 8 February, claiming she is 'moving' and 'feeling' better on Ro, and revealing she has lost an additional three pounds.

The ad, which also features NBA legend Charles Barkley, is part of a larger campaign demonstrating that people can be 'healthier on Ro.' Williams previously appeared in Super Bowl ads for Michelob Ultra and Remy Martin, and joined Kendrick Lamar onstage during last year's halftime show.
