Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has shared a fresh health update as she prepares for a new tour and her return to the ballroom for the 2026 series. The 35-year-old dancer, who faced a breast cancer diagnosis in 2023, revealed she is doing "really, really well" after undergoing a preventative mastectomy last November.
Reborn Tour and Emotional Return
Amy will join fellow professional Carlos Gu for the second leg of their tour, Reborn, described as "deep and personal" yet celebratory. Speaking to ITV News, she said: "After having your dancing taken away from you, you just enjoy every second and every beat on that dance floor." The tour has helped rebuild her confidence, with Amy admitting she nearly quit dancing after her diagnosis.
Health Journey
In 2023, Amy discovered a lump just before her honeymoon, leading to a breast cancer diagnosis. She underwent chemotherapy and two mastectomies, with the latest procedure in November 2024 as a preventative measure. By February 2024, she confirmed remission with "no evidence of disease."
Reflecting on her recovery, Amy credited her husband and Carlos for supporting her: "They didn't let me give up and got me in the studio for that tour." Carlos expressed pride in her comeback, saying: "The dancer Amy is back, finally back, and she's such a talent."
Strictly Come Dancing Return
The BBC confirmed Amy will return for the 2026 series alongside pros like Carlos Gu and Dianne Buswell. During the interview, Amy and Carlos were asked about rumours of new presenters Emma Willis and Josh Widdicombe, but they admitted they had no inside knowledge. The BBC stated a formal announcement will follow.
