Beverley Callard, the beloved Coronation Street actress, has candidly spoken about experiencing a “complete confidence crisis” as she continues her battle with breast cancer. The 69-year-old, who also appeared on I’m A Celebrity… South Africa, shared her raw emotions in a new Instagram video, describing feelings of being “half a woman.”
Raw and Honest Update
In a blunt and honest video, Callard began with a trigger warning for those who might be sensitive to the content. She recounted a moment while watching a romantic and sexual scene on television with her husband, Jon McEwan, which triggered a deep sense of loss. “I was sitting there thinking, ‘I wonder what Jon is thinking now. I can’t do anything like that anymore,’” she said.
She reflected on past playful moments with her husband, such as flashing him when he returned from work, but now feels unable to engage in such spontaneity. “I just thought, I can’t do all that anymore. I’m half a woman. And then I went into this complete confidence crisis,” she confessed. Callard noted that she didn’t fall into depression, but the crisis was profound. When she finally told Jon, he reassured her, saying he didn’t think that way at all.
Fan Support and Encouragement
Fans quickly flooded the comments with messages of support, calling her an “inspiration” and urging her to be kinder to herself. One follower wrote, “You are twice the woman you were before. To stand with such courage makes you more than the woman you once were.” Another added, “Your honesty is amazing. You are truly an admirable woman.”
Callard also questioned if others share similar feelings, asking, “Does anybody else think like that? Or am I the most self-indulgent person in the whole world?”
Breast Cancer Journey
The soap legend first noticed symptoms while filming I’m A Celebrity… South Africa last September and was forced to withdraw on doctor’s orders. She confirmed her diagnosis in February, revealing that the cancer had been removed but had spread to a lymph node. Recently, she joyfully announced that she would soon begin radiotherapy treatment.
Callard married Jon McEwan in 2010 in an intimate ceremony in Leeds, and she has previously credited him as her rock during her health struggles.
