Chad Gilbert Recovers After Brain Surgery for Three Tumors

Chad Gilbert, the lead guitarist for the iconic punk rock band New Found Glory, has provided a significant health update after undergoing brain surgery to remove three new tumors. The 45-year-old musician revealed the details in an emotional Instagram post on Monday, describing his recent medical ordeal and ongoing recovery.

Sudden Symptoms Lead to Emergency Diagnosis

Gilbert recounted that on February 20th, he performed a show in Nashville but struggled to control the movements of his left hand. His condition rapidly deteriorated, with his left leg weakening daily and causing him to stumble and fall at times. By February 23rd, the situation became critical, and he was taken to the emergency room.

A CT scan at the hospital revealed three new tumors had appeared in his brain, prompting immediate medical intervention. Gilbert underwent successful brain surgery on February 27th to address these growths.

Immediate Recovery and Hopeful Outlook

Remarkably, Gilbert reported regaining function in his left hand immediately following the procedure. He shared encouraging words from his radiation oncologist, who described the situation as "not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter."

While acknowledging that his recovery has been "bumpy at times," Gilbert expressed optimism, stating he is "feeling much better now and getting stronger by the day." He has been recovering in the hospital since the surgery.

Gratitude for Support During Challenging Times

The musician extended heartfelt thanks to those who have supported his family throughout this difficult period, including his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, and their four-year-old daughter. He noted limitations in using his phone but promised to catch up on messages as he continues to heal.

Gilbert concluded his update with a hopeful promise: "More stories to come when my brain is working well again. Love you all and am looking forward to sharing more music and fun with you as we come out of this."

Longstanding Health Battle

This recent development follows Gilbert's 2021 diagnosis of a rare form of adrenal gland cancer called metastatic pheochromocytoma. The cancer subsequently spread to his spine and lungs, necessitating intense chemotherapy treatments.

In August 2025, Gilbert announced he had resumed radiation treatments after doctors discovered a cancerous spot in his back. He has been with New Found Glory since the band's formation in 1997, maintaining his role as lead guitarist throughout his health challenges.

Outpouring of Support from Music Community

The health update, shared as a collaborative post with his wife, prompted an immediate flood of supportive messages from fellow musicians and fans. Singer Cassadee Pope commented, "You're a warrior. Sending healing and love your way," while emo band Dashboard Confessional simply wrote: "I love you bud."

Singer LOLO added, "strongest guy i know. love u," reflecting the widespread admiration for Gilbert's resilience. The musician was previously married to Eisley rocker Sherri Dupree in 2007 and Paramore star Hayley Williams from 2016 to 2017.

As Gilbert continues his recovery journey, the music community remains united in support of the beloved guitarist, eagerly anticipating his return to health and future musical contributions.
