A private GP who previously declined to offer weight loss injections has lost six stone after trying Mounjaro herself, and reports that the treatment also cleared her skin and alleviated severe endometriosis symptoms.
From Skeptic to Patient
Dr Emma Anders, 39, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, says she has struggled with her weight since childhood and tried every diet imaginable, from Weight Watchers to Keto, but could never maintain the results. Despite regular exercise and healthy eating, her weight continued to climb.
Working as a private GP for the past decade, she initially refused patient requests for GLP-1 appointments. However, after observing positive outcomes in those who used them, she decided to try the medication herself in October 2024.
Dramatic Results
Starting on the lowest dose of 2.5mg of Mounjaro, she found it so effective that she never increased the dose. Within three months, she had lost 56 pounds (4 stone). Over 18 months, her total weight loss reached six stone, taking her from a size 20 to a size 8.
Dr Anders reports that her acne rosacea, which she had for a decade, disappeared within two weeks. Her stage four endometriosis symptoms also eased considerably. She recently completed two marathons in a single week, something she attributes to her improved mobility and mental clarity.
Change of Heart on GLP-1s
Reflecting on her earlier reluctance, Dr Anders says she was critical of the drugs' efficacy after seeing complications in A&E. But seeing patients become healthier and clearer-minded changed her perspective. She now believes doctors should focus on understanding each patient's relationship with food and tailor treatment accordingly.
She advocates for a shift in medicine to better understand how GLP-1s work, noting their potential benefits for inflammation, long COVID, and PCOS. However, she also cautions that the long-term effects are not yet fully known.
Dr Anders continues to eat three full meals daily and has experienced no side effects from the medication. She hopes her story will encourage more open conversations about obesity treatment.
