ITV's Dr Amir Khan Receives Support After Revealing Traumatic GP Surgery Incident
Popular daytime television star and full-time GP Dr Amir Khan has been flooded with messages of support from fans after sharing what he described as a "traumatic thing" that occurred during his medical career. The ITV regular, who often engages with his followers on social media under the affectionate term "team," opened up about the alarming event in a recent Instagram video.
The Unfolding Drama at the Branch Surgery
Dr Amir explained that the incident took place several years ago while he was working at one of his practice's branch sites, accompanied only by a receptionist and a medical student observing his clinic. Towards the end of an afternoon surgery, the receptionist requested that he see a mother who had brought in her child with a rash.
"I brought them in and immediately recognised that the child was relatively well," Dr Amir recounted. "I could see it wasn't a serious rash, but I thought I'd use the opportunity to teach this student about rashes."
He began instructing the student on key diagnostic points, such as the size, location, texture, and blanching characteristics of rashes. Suddenly, from behind him, the student interjected with an unexpected statement: "Dr Khan, I'm allergic to cats."
A Sudden Medical Emergency Unfolds
Initially puzzled by the remark, Dr Amir continued his explanation, advising the student to check for fever and irritability in patients. The student persisted, urgently repeating, "no, no, I'm really allergic to cats." It was then that Dr Amir noticed the student breathing heavily and turned to check on him, with one hand still on the child.
"As I turned round he, like, collapsed," Dr Amir described. "And as he went down he hit the pram that the child had come in with, and the pram shot across the room. As it did so, a cat which this mum had brought in in the shelf underneath the baby shot out and went underneath the couch."
The student was experiencing a full anaphylactic reaction, prompting Dr Amir to swiftly press the panic button under his desk. The receptionist rushed in but tripped over the collapsed student, adding to the chaos. After helping her up, Dr Amir directed her to fetch a crash trolley.
Resolution and Aftermath of the Chaotic Scene
Adrenaline was administered to the student, and Dr Amir quickly reassured the mother that her baby was fine, sending them on their way. An ambulance arrived to transport the student to hospital, and thankfully, everyone involved—the baby, mother, receptionist, and student—recovered without serious harm.
However, the drama did not end there. "I was like... 'have we found the cat?'" Dr Amir recalled. "We didn't find the cat. But, my god, the drama."
Fan Reactions and Support Pour In
Fans have enthusiastically responded to Dr Amir's anecdote, flooding the comments section with messages of amusement and relief. One supporter wrote: "Hilarious! I’m sure this could only happen to you," while another exclaimed: "OMG!! Absolutely love this story!!! It’s the best! Proper drama." A third added: "Oh my goodness what a crazy sequence of events Dr Amir with a happy ending."
