Peter Andre's Wife Dr Emily Opens Up About Shingles Diagnosis
Emily Andre, the NHS doctor and wife of singer Peter Andre, has publicly revealed her diagnosis with shingles in a candid health update shared on Instagram. The 36-year-old medical professional posted a video titled "A little health update" to inform her followers about the condition, hoping to provide both personal insight and educational value.
Honest Health Disclosure on Social Media
In the Instagram video, Dr Emily Andre addressed her followers directly, stating: "Hi everyone, I wanted to share something a bit personal, but also hopefully helpful. You might have seen my videos this week I mentioned I had a minor health issue." She continued to explain that she had received a shingles diagnosis, seeing it as an opportunity to educate others about this medical condition.
"Basically what's happened is I've been diagnosed with Shingles," she said. "So as a doctor I thought this was a good opportunity to do a bit of education around what Shingles is."
Demographics and Symptoms of Shingles
Dr Andre addressed common misconceptions about shingles, noting: "You might associate Shingles with older people by the way and you would be right because that is the most common age group affected. I'm definitely a bit younger than the typical demographic but it can happen at any age which is why it's worth knowing about."
She provided a medical explanation of the condition: "Just to explain briefly what Shingles is, it's caused by the same virus that gives you chicken pox. After you've had chicken pox, which many people do in childhood, the virus stays dormant in your body and it can then reactivate later in life as Shingles."
Regarding her personal experience with symptoms, Dr Andre described: "For me personally, I noticed a pain and just odd sensations under my arm here and then a couple of days later the rash appeared on my back on one side. It is typically just on one side of the body, often in a band or a strip. It then develops into fluid-filled blisters that can be quite painful."
Professional Background and Family Life
Emily Andre is a practising NHS doctor and published author who frequently appears as a medical expert on television programs including ITV's Lorraine. She married Peter Andre on 11 July 2015 after initially meeting in 2010 when her father, a surgeon, treated the singer for kidney stones.
The couple have three children together: Amelia, Theo, and Arabella. Dr Andre maintains an active public profile while balancing her medical career with family responsibilities.
Medical Advice and Personal Reflection
In her Instagram caption accompanying the video, Dr Andre emphasized the importance of seeking professional medical guidance: "As always, do refer to the NHS website for more information, and seek medical advice if you're unsure about anything." She added a personal reflection on her experience: "Let's just say... not exactly how I planned to spend the week, but a good reminder to listen to your body and get things checked if something doesn't feel right."
This public health disclosure from a qualified medical professional serves to destigmatize discussions about personal health issues while providing accurate medical information to a broad audience. Dr Andre's approach combines professional expertise with personal experience, creating an educational resource that may help others recognize and understand shingles symptoms.
