Dr Zoe Williams, a regular contributor on ITV's This Morning, has provided a health update from hospital following major spinal surgery. The 45-year-old underwent the operation after months of back problems, which had forced her to step back from the show.
In an Instagram video, Zoe appeared upbeat as she enjoyed a post-operation meal. Another clip showed her getting up for the first time, with a creaking sound that she joked was her knees, saying: 'They always do that.' She later shared a video of her bandage at the base of her spine, captioned: 'Dressed. No bending, twisting, lifting for six weeks.'
Zoe had been diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis and required a lumbar decompression. She explained that the surgeon would remove overgrown ligaments and bone caused by degenerative changes to her spine. Her doctor noted that the operation was 'really tight' because the nerve canal had flattened, compressing the nerves.
On her final appearance before surgery, Zoe told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard that she hoped to take only four weeks off work. She said she had tried everything, including physio, but surgery was the only option. She added that her active lifestyle, including rugby and high-intensity sports, combined with genetics, may have contributed to the condition, which typically affects people in their 60s.
Zoe is now home and resting, with her recovery expected to last six weeks without bending, twisting, or lifting.
