The Department for Work and Pensions has officially confirmed that disability benefit payment rates will see a significant uplift starting in April 2026. This adjustment affects key support systems including Personal Independence Payment, Disability Living Allowance, and Attendance Allowance, with a uniform increase of 3.8 per cent for the 2026/27 financial year.

New Payment Rates Effective from April 6, 2026

With the confirmed 3.8 per cent rise, these figures will climb to a weekly span of £30.30 to £194.60, equating to £121.20 and £778.40 every payment period.

Detailed Breakdown of PIP Components

PIP consists of two distinct components: daily living and mobility. From Monday, April 6, 2026, the updated weekly rates will be as follows:

  • Daily Living Component: Enhanced rate rises to £114.60 from £110.40, while the standard rate increases to £76.70 from £73.90.
  • Mobility Component: Enhanced rate moves up to £80.00 from £77.05, with the standard rate climbing to £30.30 from £29.20.

Possible Award Combinations for Claimants

Individuals receiving PIP may qualify for various award combinations, ranging from single component payments to mixed rates across both elements. The Department for Work and Pensions will issue letters to all claimants prior to April, outlining their specific new payment structures. There are eight potential award scenarios, detailed below:

  1. Single Component Award Only: Standard daily living at £76.70 weekly (£306.80 per pay period), enhanced daily living at £114.60 weekly (£458.40 per pay period), standard mobility at £30.30 weekly (£121.20 per pay period), or enhanced mobility at £80.00 weekly (£320.00 per pay period).
  2. Lower Rate for Both Components: Standard daily living and standard mobility combine for £107 per week, totalling £428 per pay period.
  3. Higher Rate for Both Components: Enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility result in £194.60 weekly, equating to £778.40 per pay period.
  4. Mixed Rates: Standard daily living with enhanced mobility yields £156.70 weekly (£626.80 per pay period), while enhanced daily living with standard mobility provides £144.90 weekly (£579.60 per pay period).

It is crucial to note that PIP and all associated disability benefits remain entirely tax-free and are not subject to the benefit cap, ensuring recipients receive the full financial support intended.
