Fox NFL sideline reporter Erin Andrews has publicly revealed a deeply personal family medical crisis, disclosing that her father suffered a severe heart attack during a Christmas Eve family gathering in Montana. The emotional revelation came during Thursday's episode of the 'Calm Down' podcast, where Andrews provided a detailed account of the traumatic incident and its aftermath.
A Christmas Crisis in Montana
Andrews described the Christmas Eve event as "hellacious and horrible" but noted it ultimately had "a great ending" thanks to rapid medical intervention. "My dad had a heart attack in Montana with us and it was awful," Andrews stated. "And it was right in front of us. I'm very proud of my sister, my mom, [husband] Jarret and I for springing into crazy town action [and] getting paramedics."
The situation required emergency air transport, with Steven Andrews being life-flighted to another hospital for urgent care. Erin expressed profound gratitude for the medical response, saying: "I was at the time just beyond grateful for the care my dad received — from the firefighters and the helicopter to the people in Bozeman hospital who took care of him."
Second Hospitalisation and Family Anxiety
The story took another concerning turn recently when Andrews' father experienced a second medical scare. "Our PTSD was tested again when my son FaceTimed my father the other day and he answered from a hospital bed in Tampa," Andrews explained. While this episode fortunately wasn't another heart attack, Steven Andrews exhibited all the symptoms of one, causing significant family distress.
"For four or five days our family was just wrecked, like, oh my God, this poor man can't catch a break," Andrews recounted. The recent hospitalisation occurred in Tampa, where her father resides, adding another layer of worry to an already stressful three-month period for the family.
Tribute to Healthcare Professionals
Throughout her emotional account, Andrews repeatedly emphasized her appreciation for medical professionals. "The moral of the story is, thank God my dad is alive, but my dad is alive because of these healthcare workers," she stated. "I just feel like they are people that don't get as much credit as they deserve."
Andrews' co-host on the podcast, Charissa Thompson, noted that Andrews was sharing her father's story specifically to highlight and thank the healthcare workers who provided care during both medical emergencies.
Family Health Concerns and Emotional Impact
In a particularly poignant moment during the podcast, a tearful Andrews revealed that she and her sister, Kendra, are now undergoing medical examinations to check for hereditary markers of cardiovascular disease. "This is where I'll cry my dad takes care of himself so much and he does such a good job," Andrews said emotionally. "And I feel so bad, he needs a break, cardiovascular disease is so f***ing horrible."
Steven Andrews is a retired Emmy Award-winning investigative broadcast journalist who worked for years for NBC station WFLA. His daughter's public sharing of this personal health crisis underscores both the sudden nature of cardiovascular emergencies and the critical importance of rapid medical response.
The podcast episode also touched on other personal losses, with Thompson sharing that her grandmother passed away just last week, adding to the emotional weight of the conversation about family health and medical care.
