Family's Heartbreak as Yorkshire Teenager Dies Suddenly from Epileptic Seizure
The devastated family of a 17-year-old girl from Yorkshire have paid an emotional tribute to their 'perfect daughter' after her sudden death following an epileptic seizure. Millie-Jay Rose Boocock passed away on February 25 at her grandmother's house in Morley, as reported by YorkshireLive, leaving her loved ones in profound grief.
A Life Cut Tragically Short
Millie-Jay had been diagnosed with epilepsy approximately four years ago and had experienced seizures periodically. Remarkably, she had been seizure-free for three months prior to the tragic incident that claimed her life. Described by her family as a much-loved and beautiful daughter and granddaughter, the teenager was a student at Wakefield College in Wakefield, where she pursued business studies.
Her father, Chris, remembered Millie-Jay as a lovely young woman who was polite and maintained a close-knit group of friends. She cherished spending quality time with both family and friends, had a passion for reading, and enjoyed baking. Ambitiously, she dreamed of one day establishing and running her own business enterprise.
Family's Moving Tributes and Obituary
In an online obituary, Millie-Jay was commemorated as a 'deeply loved' teenager who will be 'remembered with great love and affection'. The notice detailed: 'On 25th February 2026, suddenly, aged just 17, Millie-Jay, cherished and deeply loved daughter of Shell and Chris, much loved granddaughter of Susan and Michael, Andrea and the late Mick and remembered with great love and affection by all her family and many friends.'
The funeral service is scheduled to take place at St Mary of the Angels RC Church in Batley on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 2pm, followed by a committal at Batley Cemetery. The family has requested that flowers be sent to George Brooke's Chapel of Rest in Dewsbury, or alternatively, donations can be made online or via a collection box to benefit Epilepsy Action, with the poignant closing: 'Millie-Jay – Forever 17.'
Raising Awareness of Epilepsy's Dangers
Millie-Jay's mother, Shell, expressed her profound sorrow, stating: 'She's my number one girl and my heart is broken.' Both parents have emphasized that they had not fully comprehended the potential severity of epilepsy. Chris revealed that the family is now determined to raise awareness about the condition and its serious risks, hoping to prevent similar tragedies.
In response to their loss, Millie-Jay's parents, along with family and friends, have initiated a fundraising campaign for Epilepsy Action in her memory. This effort aims to support research, education, and assistance for those affected by epilepsy, underscoring the critical need for greater public understanding and vigilance regarding the condition.
The family encourages donations to be made either online or through the provided collection boxes, with all contributions directed to Epilepsy Action to honour Millie-Jay's legacy and promote epilepsy awareness.
