A robust immune system can determine whether you shake off a minor cold swiftly or endure debilitating symptoms for days. Emerging research suggests that your geographical location might influence your immune health more significantly than previously assumed, with certain global regions offering more favourable conditions.
World Immunity Report Unveils Top Nations
Experts at Nature's Best, a UK-based supplements company, have compiled the World Immunity Report, revealing the world's best countries for immune system support. The comprehensive study assigned an overall score out of 80 to each nation, evaluating multiple critical factors. These included average temperature, obesity rates, average age, average rainfall, online searches related to damp and mould, pollution levels, and smoking rates.
Morocco Claims the Premier Position
Securing the top spot with an impressive score of 63.4 out of 80, Morocco emerged as the global leader. The North African nation benefits from a warm climate, boasting an average temperature of 19.2°C, and one of the lowest levels of average annual rainfall at just 215mm. Additionally, Morocco performed well on obesity metrics, with only 22.1 per cent of its population classified as obese.
India and South Africa Follow Closely
India secured second place with a score of 54.2, largely attributed to its high average temperature of 25.4°C, one of the warmest among the 30 nations analysed. The country also stands out for its remarkably low obesity rate of just 7.2 per cent nationally. South Africa rounded out the top three with a score of 53.7, demonstrating strong performance across the evaluated criteria.
Completing the Top Ten Rankings
The top five nations were completed by Tunisia, scoring 52.7, and Egypt with 51.1. The subsequent positions in the top ten were occupied by Denmark (45), the Dominican Republic (44.8), Canada (44.1), Malaysia (43.8), and Albania (43.3). This diverse list highlights how various regions can offer conducive environments for immune health through different combinations of factors.
Stark Contrast for Western Nations
In a surprising contrast, both the United States and the United Kingdom appeared in the bottom five of the rankings. The US scored 30.4 out of 80, while the UK fared even worse with just 28.5. These low scores were primarily driven by higher obesity rates and elevated smoking prevalence compared to top-ranking nations.
For the UK specifically, placing 28th reflects challenging conditions for immune health. The nation experiences lower average temperatures of approximately nine degrees Celsius and obesity rates reaching 28.7 per cent. Swapping the UK's cooler, cloudier climate for Morocco's year-round sunshine and warm, dry air illustrates the dramatic environmental contrasts captured in these rankings.
Expert Insights on Immune Health
Lucy Kershaw, nutrition expert at Nature's Best, emphasised the broader implications of these findings. 'Your immune system isn't just something to think about when you're sick,' she noted. 'Where you live, how you eat and how much you move can all add up. The good news is that with small daily changes you can help your immune system all year round.'
The 2026 World Immunity Index, published by Nature's Best, provides valuable insights into how environmental and lifestyle factors intersect with immune function globally. While geography plays a significant role, the report underscores that proactive health choices remain crucial regardless of location.
