Perez Hilton Undergoes Emergency Surgery After Sepsis Scare
Perez Hilton Emergency Surgery After Sepsis Hospitalization

Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton has confronted a new medical emergency this week, undergoing urgent surgery to remove a dangerous blood clot from his leg. This latest health crisis comes mere days after the 48-year-old nearly died from sepsis during a prolonged 21-day hospital stay earlier this year.

Emergency Thrombectomy Procedure

From his hospital bed, Hilton shared on Instagram that doctors discovered a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) during an ultrasound examination. "We caught this early," Hilton explained. "I went to the surgeon today - really good timing - and last night I started having real soreness and pain in one of my legs."

The blogger described how his condition deteriorated rapidly: "This morning, it was way worse. I couldn't even walk. I had to use my walker." Medical professionals determined Hilton had a "totally occluded blood clot from my groin going all the way down to just below my calf" that required immediate surgical intervention.

Successful Surgery and Recovery

Hilton underwent a thrombectomy procedure to remove the extensive clot, declaring afterward: "God is so good. The thrombectomy surgery this morning was quick and painless. I was asleep for it all. And I feel so much better already!"

The celebrity blogger expressed profound relief that the clot was detected before it could travel to his lungs or heart, which could have caused catastrophic consequences. "I am so thankful to God that we caught this early because if that blood clot had gone to my lungs or my heart, it could have been real bad," he stated.

Previous Sepsis Hospitalization

This latest medical emergency follows Hilton's recent hospitalization for sepsis, which he described as "the worst and best thing that's ever happened to me." The blogger spent 21 days in hospital after developing an ulcer that perforated and led to the life-threatening infection.

Hilton revealed the sepsis resulted from taking medication without food while suffering from the flu. "Because I have been taking all of this medication without food for a week, I developed an ulcer then a perforation and then Sepsis," he explained. "People die of Sepsis."

During that harrowing experience, Hilton previously disclosed he "saw God" while fighting for his life. The infection left him unable to walk, requiring ambulance transport to the emergency room.

Career and Personal Reflections

Hilton, who launched his celebrity gossip blog in 2004 (originally called PageSixSixSix.com before becoming PerezHilton.com), has recently reflected on his career trajectory. In 2021, he expressed regret for his coverage of Britney Spears' 2007 breakdown, acknowledging he "regrets a lot or most of what I said about Britney."

The media personality has evolved his approach over the years, telling Good Morning Britain: "Thankfully, hopefully, many of us get older and wiser." While still active in celebrity journalism, Hilton now focuses significant attention on raising his three children - Mario, 13, Mia, 10, and Mayte, 8 - all born via surrogate using eggs from the same anonymous donor.

As he recovers from his latest health scare, Hilton promised his followers: "I will further talk about the health saga that I went through soon in full detail," captioning one post simply: "March madness indeed! Have I got a story to tell!"
