Wayne Lineker, the well-known nightclub owner and brother of football pundit Gary Lineker, has shared a distressing health update, confirming he will spend Christmas in hospital after suffering a second severe medical episode.
A Frightening Relapse After Discharge
The 62-year-old was discharged from hospital last week after a near-fatal bout of pneumonia, armed with antibiotics and medication. However, his recovery was brutally short-lived. After just four days at home, he suffered what he described as a "severe second attack."
While being cared for at home by his son, Sean Lineker, Wayne's condition deteriorated so rapidly that an ambulance had to be called to rush him back to hospital. He expressed profound gratitude for his son's presence during the crisis.
Ongoing Investigations and a Sobering Link
Medical teams are now conducting extensive tests to understand why the initial treatment was not fully effective. Wayne Lineker has undergone countless scans and blood tests, with more results pending.
In a significant revelation, he suggested a potential link to his immune system. Lineker stated that his immunity "hasn't been the same since I stopped drinking alcohol" nearly six months ago. He explained he experienced multiple infections during rehab and believes this drastic lifestyle change is a significant factor in his current vulnerability.
If this theory is confirmed, his treatment plan will involve a strong course of antibiotics and steroids administered via a drip.
Accepting a Hospital Christmas
The unfortunate consequence of this setback is that Wayne Lineker will not be home for the festive period. He has come to terms with the fact that he will be spending Christmas in hospital, vowing to remain there until he is completely well enough to be discharged.
This latest health scare follows a traumatic period earlier this month where he spent nearly 10 days in intensive care after falling ill following a flight to Dubai. He previously credited his four months of sobriety at the time for giving him the strength to survive that initial ordeal.
His update on social media was met with an outpouring of support from celebrity friends and family, including messages from Celebs Go Dating's Anna Williamson, actor Karim Zeroual, and his nephew George Lineker.
